Different option

Thanks so much for your contributions, everyone who has been involved in making these cool icon replacements!

By way of clarification for those still confused, you have three options to replace the BT and WiFi icons:

1) you can drop a .mui file into your \Windows directory; this will simply tell BTTrayCE and WirelessIcon to use the icons in the .mui file; the benefit of using this method is that you can save your .mui files and drop them into \Windows every time you upgrade to a new ROM and they'll always work

2) you can download the fixed .exe files from this thread; the danger in doing this is that if you're running a newer ROM (I'm using A05 on my X50v), then downloading and installing BTTrayCE.exe or WirelessIcon.exe from here could downgrade your files if the icons were changed under A03 or another ROM; you would thus lose the benefit of the new file versions

3) you can get a program like Resource Hacker and following earlier instructions in this thread (not a hard program to learn), you can download icons you like (.exe or .mui) from the thread and update the icons of the current files in your \Windows directory; the tradeoff is that you have to change the icons in the same manner every time you upgrade your ROM because your new icons will be overwritten

I've chosen to use the .mui files because they're easy and I can use them over and over with minimal work. I have combined different contributions to come up with the best solution for me and I'm attaching the .mui files so you can use this set if you like it. I liked the four WiFi bars with bigger bars and I also didn't mind having the 'X' on the icons when they're disconnected. This is what my .mui files contain.

I haven't bothered to give credit to those who came up with all of this because they're all in this thread. I just rearranged different aspects that I liked of what people have given us here. Thanks again, you guys!

There's a link to a nice WiFi icon for WM5 in My PDA. I haven't found one for the BT icon, but I'm using BTSwitch (link in My PDA), which I use to replace the BT icon in the System Tray using iLauncher.

If anyone knows of a working BT icon replacement for WM5, please let me know.

The Wireless mui file is working just fine, but for some reason the BT mui file isn't. Did a couple soft resets and still nothing. I copied them both to the \Windows directory.

FSRGuy, can you make a .mui file for ActiveSync also? Or may be you can provide a link where I can learn how to do it myself?

The icons that FSRGuy posted in post #226, are they for VGA or QVGA? And do they work well on 2003 SE?

Ok.. I tried the 2 mui. BT icon worked but Wi-Fi icon didn't even after a soft reset.

Same problem here w/ my Acer N300. Only BT icon working but without luck the Wireless icon. ResEdit the resEng.dll and replace the ROM file working but I still prefer the MUI way. Anyone can help?

I have BT + Wireless icons working fine.

Had trouble though with some Today items in particular the pRSSreader plugin using Pocket Plus.

On soft reset the device hung when loading the today items. I had to push a few buttons to get past the lockup!!!

Now on soft reset I just turn them off first.

Worth it though for the icons!

Exclamation Spanish ROM user

PLS: How exactly do I (Spanish ROM user) have to change filenames? So far, dropped the files in \Windows, soft reset, and nothing happens.
