.
YES!

Go with Firefox. I have been using it for a while now and love it. I will never again use a browser that does not have tabbed browsing.

I got the idea you were referring to something other than PIE for your Axim, if I'm wrong, forgive me.

Here are some alternatives, couple free, others at a nominal cost. Reensofts PIE Plus allows more than one window at a time plus includes the ability to fool web sites into thinking you're running IE6 on a desktop, check it out and try the trial at: http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=10692
ftXp can add certain things that are usually desirable and it's free.

I personally like and use mostly MultiIE which adds a ton to PIE, see and try it at: http://www.southwaycorp.net/multiie.htm

for ftXp, see: http://park15.wakwak.com/~ftx/ftxp3e/

Better yet, try all 3 and make your choice and hope this helps.

Another one that is pretty decent is Netfront v3.1, trials are also available on it but it is a bit pricey and while I own it, I don't really like it after using it for a while. Here is the delvelpers link tho, take a look:
http://nfppc.access.co.jp/english/

Another freebie, not really a browser but a service somewhat similar to THawk in that it renders web pages for use on a PPC or Palm or whatever for that matter. Here's their link (I primarily use MultiIE and the subscription version of this, works quite well):

Again, hope I didn't misunderstand your meaning but if I did, Firefox is excellent for the Desktop but there are others, I use NetCaptor and like it much better.

ftxPBrowser is free and has tabs but there is problems. read the page and decide for yourself. works pretty well though for most general browsing.

do any of those let you save web pages to your PPC (or pictures?)...I can't stand the fact that I can't save articles and pictures that I'm viewing on my PPC to the unit itself....the only way to do it is to grab them on my laptop and copy them over.

I have similar problemswith Multi IE. Sometimes it lets me save pics and sometimes it says it doesn't recognize it in cache and won't let me save it.
