win mobile 2003 Se and Windows CE

Hi,

Haven't got my axim yet....but i am browsing around for software as my unit is in the truck coming to me

Anyways,

i am more of a unix person, but i do run windows 2000 and i am not familiar with the OS(s) for mobile devices.
Is windows CE an old version of windows mobile 2003 or is it a completelly different?

Also, when downloading software for X50v, what do you get from the list? ARM/XSCALE MIPS SH3

Thanks!

If they give you a choice between CE and WM 2003, go with WM 2003.

If the only non-palm option is CE, then it should work just fine.

You will also see sites offer you a choice based on the type of processor. In this case, go with the option for the "ARM" processor.

Enjoy your new Axim. Hope we continue o see you around, unless you keep shutting down as your name implies

Well...it actualy isn't the processor type. The processor is an Xscale from Intel. But software made for the ARM processor family will be compatible.

Windows CE (Compact Edition) is a generic operating system meant for small embedded devices. Windows Mobile is a branch of windows CE with a special shell/interface designed for the Pocket PCs.

Regular windows CE programs will run fine on a pocket PC, but they will cause the taskbar to shift from the top the bottom, and in general will look "crunched" because they're often designed with larger screens in mind.
