Mobile 2003 lost Contacts icon
Can any of you experts help with a problem? I have Mobile 2003 running on my Dell Axim X5.

The 'Contacts' Icon has dropped from my Today page. It's still present on my Home page, but no longer does anything. Nor does the (correctly assigned) hardware button work. The file is still there: a search finds particular contacts as before, and it works with ActiveSync.

How do I restore working icons for my Contacts to my Today and Home Page? Please don't tell me I have to re-install Mobile 2003!!

Many thanks.

Mr Jones.

When you find the file through Activesync and select it, does it open your Contacts? Also, are you running any third party apps? If clicking the file does not do anything, then chances are something is wrong with the file (ie corrupt or empty) and you will likely need to perform a hard reset.

Same but differnet problem

I have 2 dead shortcut icons in HOME, CALENDAR and CONTACTS...
They work elsewhere, just not in the HOME program!
I found that if I am running HOME and STOP ALL RUNNING PROGRAMS thru the memory options, that kills the icons everytime.
Sometimes they just die! The only way to restore them is ANOTHER HARD RESET! Jeeze I tell you, this is almost as bad as Windoze Me!!!
If ANYONE knows of a way to edit the HOME program's icons, please let me know.
THANKS

What is "Home"?
I'm sure I can help you, but I need to know what the HOME is. I have the X5, but I don't recall seeing anything called Home. Unless you're using something like Dashboard, which basically redoes your Today page to be MUCH more functional, I don't recall seeing something called Home.

I'll tell you this much so far, the anwer will be in using the File Exporer to navigate to whatever folder Home uses to list your programs and putting the shortcuts back in there.

I had the same problem on my x50v with contacts, calendar and activesync icons showing as windows icons in the home screen and not working. I really don't use the home screen but it was annoying. I read somewhere that it happens when you uncheck these icons from the start menu at the menu options (Start>Settings>Menus).

You don¢t need a hard reset to bring them back. Just go to HOME and there delete these icons (Options->Delete). Then add them again (New) choosing the LNK (shortcut) from Windows>Start Menu>Programs. This should work it worked for me. Remember that contacts and calendar go to main while Activesync goes to tools.

Solution to HOME shortcuts
I GOT IT!
There are 2 ways to fix this problem. But first let me more clearly define the problem. HOME is an application by HTC that is by default attached to the button that has a little HOUSE on it. Home is nothing more than a simple launcher program. The problem is caused by UNCHECKING the box relating to the troubled program shortcut in the SETTINGS>MENUS screen.
If you uncheck CALENDAR, (as I did) you are selecting not to have CALENDAR appear in the programs listing when you tap START. Since you can only select 7 programs to appear under START, and CALENDAR has a hardware button, I unchecked it to allow another program to show up in START. This caused the related shortcut icon to go dead in HOME.
Home lacks the ability to edit shortcuts. You can delete shortcuts by selecting a catagory, then using the Options tool DELETE. BUT No Edit! Just create a new link to the .EXE or .LNK relating to the desired program. Use File Explorer to locate the file. Most of the files you will find are in WINDOWS>START MENU>PROGRAMS.
The other way to FIX the dead shortcuts is to get a Registry Editor and open the HOME program and tell it where to find the missing links. The location of the HOME application is: HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>HomeAP.
I use the PHM free registry editor. Works great.
Or I guess you could always just recheck the box in MENUS and go back to where you started!
AND... While you are fixing your HOME app, FIX the link to MS Messenger. Looks like Microsoft's team has not found the spel checkr either.
