Active Sync 3,8

Has anyone tested this upgrade yet? I am using 3.71 and while there are beneficial features with the upgrade, I think 3.71 is still stable. Can anyone sway my opinion and feel that I should pgrade?

I've been using 3.8 since it came out, and I haven't had any problems. It seems somewhat faster too.

I've not noticed any difference in speed or functionality. Installing it buggered up my laptop totally so that it would no longer connect to my Dell. I finally sorted it out by uninstalling it and cleaning my registry out.

Has worked fine for me since upgrading to it. Have not really noticed any speed enhancement, but no problems after the upgrade.

Hmmm...It wasn't supposed to speed up anything, but it was supposed to have solved problems some folks had with connections, particularly with USB.

According to Beverly Howard, posting in the microsoft.public.pocketpc.activesync usenet group:

Based on history, _unless_ you are having problems with the current
version of activesync you are using, this is one program where I
strongly recommend not installing until the "first use" reports are out
and it has run long enough to prove it's stability in the field.

Thanks to Al, Nitram, Michael and Clinton for taking the first steps
toward that... keep your fingers crossed... (fwiw, we mvp's learned
about this release from the posts here ;-)

3.7.1 is working great for me, so I'll stick with it unless I run into a connectivity issue.

Issues with 3.8 I have seen posted there include:
  • Create Mobile Favorites may map incorrectly
  • AS not starting upon connection - this occurs when people install 3.8 over 3.7.1. Always uninstall 3.7.1 first!
  • Some report Remote Sync and VPN problems
  • Some are seeing the following error message when the sync gets to Notes:
    Quote:
    ---------------------------
    Microsoft Outlook
    ---------------------------
Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the
network and access information. Restart your desktop computer and
synchronize again. If the problem persists, contact your network
    administrator.
    ---------------------------

So if you installed it and are having no problems, cool. If you are doing fine with 3.7.1, pass on the update. BTW, there have been no reports of increased sync or transfer speed.

only thing I seem to see improvements in is that it stays connected much better. it used to drop out after a while when I was connected via wi-fi but now it stays connected.

Works fine for me on my X50v; I have had it installed for a few days. (and I installed it over 3.7.1).

Problems

3.8 was working fine for me (X30H) until last night. Now it can't make a connection. About 10 seconds into the process I get a "Synchronization Error..." and then "Not Connected."

I did get it to synch once after that by doing a hard reset, but it only worked the first time. Now it's back to consistent failure.

Found the solution

here:

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...nization+error

it's the SD card. Take it out before putting the Axim in the cradle.

Been using 3.8 on my X5 with no problems for some time. No change for the better or worse - bit of a non-event really.

It's not just the SD card, tried that and nadda. Same error message, about 5 seconds of spinning green button and then sync error.
