Missing My 'Help' Icon on Start Menu
I'm sure I’ll smack my head when I get the 'answer' to this issue (or lots of people pointing to another thread). But I couldn't find any other threads like this one (mostly b/c you can't search on the term 'help').

Anyway . . .One day I was cleaning up my Axim (as I’m wont to do).

The next thing I know I’ve lost the Help icon at the bottom of my start menu. You know the one. It goes 'list of programs' divider 'list of recent programs' divider Programs, Settings, and Help. Except I’ve lost it.

I’ve found a link to help and tried to put it in the start menu - but it didn't take and it was just the help to a specific program (Resco File Explorer).

Any way to tell if I’ve deleted or worse (un-installed) my help. Or more importantly, any ideas on how to fix - bring back the help icon.

It does make life a little more difficult not being to just go <start> <help> no matter which program I’m using (for those programs that don't have a help button/function.

Ok I’ve rambled on long enough. Any help is much appreciated

A (helpless) Bug

(that pun has never been more true )

i don't have my axim with me to refer to, but check the /Windows folder (using file explorer)...if you find it there, a shortcut to it should work.

also, try using the "find" program. in the dropdown menu, see if 'help' is an option (usually, it has pocket word, pocket excel, all files, ect...). i'm not sure if help is ALWAYS an option, so don't panic if it isn't there. if you DO see it, at least you can be sure that it still exists...

i'm sure it's not uninstalled...probably just the shortcut is missing. most pre-installed ROM programs cannot be deleted. either way, i'm sure you can download a new copy of the file from somewhere.

good luck!

eve6grl02 (and anyone else reading this);

Hmm. . .

I am sorry. I don't think I made myself clear.

If I go to the /windows/help folder there are the help files. And I can 'run' them to view help.

However the icon in the start menu (the one that looks like a circle with a Question mark) is missing. I've gone through the Settings Menu selection function to see if it was something I could check (if unchecked). But no.

I've also tried adding a short cut (.lnk) help file to the start menu folder in the windows directory (/windows/start Menu). The Link is there but doesn't show up on the Start menu.

Right now I can't even find the Help program(?, dll?) I've had to associate hlp files to the help of one of my game's Help file. As a result, that programs help becomes the first Help file seen and then I can choose 'show all installed help' to get to the help file I’m looking for.

Bottom line: I want the help icon on my start menu where it belongs (w/out doing a hard reset preferable) and I want it to automatically pull up the help file for the program I’m currently using.

Am I insane or just the only one stupid enough to mess this up?

On mine, I can go to Start...Settings...Menus (on the Personal Tab). I can check/uncheck the 'Help' item on the list. Not sure if that'll help if you deleted a file but it's another way to stab at it

After digging around a bit I found out that the file is called peghelp.exe and is in the windows folder - there are 2 other files: pegcards.dll and pegobj.dll, but I'm not sure if they are associated with the help system or not - are those missing on your system? If not you should be able to copy-n-paste a shortcut of the .exe to the windows\start menu folder. I would attach them but they are in ROM so I can't get to them.

Mon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,

Yes . . . that is the information I’m looking for. I have to search around, but I know I’ve come upon Peghelp.exe in my searches. At least I now know its one of the keys.

I will play/search/move/re-do and see what I can do. Thank you
Thank you

Well I sucumbed - Best Solution (Hard Reset)
While Mon's advice was a good pointer - i still couldn't get help to work, look, or activate correctly.

I bit the bullet and did a Hard Reset. And guess what!

It works great now (surprise surprise).

So thanks for all your help, and let's hope i don't need it again (at least not for this issue. i'm still unable to view mobile favorites when i'm not logged on (defeates the purpose of mobile favorites, but oh well)).

Thanks again,

A (reset) Bug

It may have had something to do with how many items were on your start menu and the reset may have cleared some of the items you added.
