Pocket Excel-how do you easily enter + - / * symbols?
Is there a way to quickly enter operator symbols like =, +, -, /, *, (, ) without having to use Graffiti? I’ve been using Documents to Go for PalmOS for years, and use a particular spreadsheet multiple times a day.
In Docs to Go there’s an (optional) line below the spreadsheet that allows you to quickly enter an operator symbol. For example, you write ‘10’ in graffiti, then click the ‘+’ sign to have one appear at the cursor position, then write ‘9’ with graffiti then click ‘(‘ on the line, etc. It’s really convenient, much easier than having to remember the graffiti symbols for all those characters.

Graffiti is to the Palm, Block Recognizer is on the PPC. But, there is no difference in their use.
On the Block Recognizer there is a button on te right with an at symbol in it. Tap this and it will bring up a section with many of the special characters. Have you tried using Transcriber?

I saw that symbol thing next to the text entry portion, but it didn't seem to have the characters I need. Maybe it does-I'll try again tommorow (I don't have an Axim yet, just playing with PocketPCs in store to see if they'll work for me.)
Thanks for the info! I'll look more carefully this time. Oh, and sorry, I'm kind of using the term Graffiti generically (and I call "Graffiti 2" JOT, since it is, and I'm annoying that way ). I actually hate JOT so much that that's one of the primary reasons I'm seriously looking at Axim's again. You can't restore Graffiti on to Palm's T5 like you could with their older models.

What about the pop-up keyboard?
All the symbols you mentioned are in the pop-up keyboard (the little icon in the lower right corner--the bottom bar). You click on the SHIFT key and the whole top row of the keyboard is the special symbols....just like on a regular keyboard.

Thanks guys! I tried out that symbol, and it does do more or less what I want. It's not as good as how Documents to Go works, but it is more or less useable.
I'm really torn as to what to do. Windows Mobile has a clunky interface, and of the two HP units I played with today, one locked hard, and the other couldn't kill or switch to the calender app. The T5 meanwhile has only JOT/Graffiti 2 which I *HATE*, seems to have a humming screen, buttons that require a press of several seconds to turn on the unit, and has no voice recorder. Wish I could design my own PDA...

I use Transcriber, and there is a little button that looks like a keyboard that brings up all of these symbols. The advantage is it stays in place until you Close it.
