The biggest thing left out is speech recognition.Doesn't Microsoft Word come with software that allows you to say something into a microphone and it can convert it to typed text?I could really use something like that for Pocket Word.

That doesn't exist on any PPC (or other PDA) so it's not suprising it's been left out. It's quite a resource intensive application so I wouldn't count on it happening just yet

Built in programs are just fine because all I care is how well they can make the operating system run. If we expect MS to make good utilities and OS then maybe the stability will be less than what it is now O_O
lol I like the freeware I find anyways.

psion andy said it best. I'll decide what I want on my ppc and how I'll use my memory. Give me some basics to get started and let me customize from there. After all, doesn't everyone on this site have their own preferences? Plus there's tons of talented programmers making cool progs. Variety is good, competition is good.

Another thing to keep in mind is upgrades. Dell shipped the X5 with MS Reader built-in. Now you have to install it, but it is upgradeable (was then too, but if you didn't use it...) and was essentially installed twice.
I am happy with the suite of applications included and can install what is missing. Don't chew up my BIS with silly utilities that I won't use.
