A04 to A05 upgrade, need help
Hi all, I tried searching for the answer but couldn't find it. I just bought the 2003(A05) upgrade off ebay but I'm having a problem with it.(or maybe it's me) It's the R64365 upgrade which i'm finding out might not be the legit one. I backed up my X5 400mhz Adv and started the upgrade. First I backed up the ROM and then continued to do the upgrade and it said "You cannot upgrade Microsoft Pocket PC 2002(A04) to pocket PC 2003(A05)" Why not? Am I not installing it correctly? Then I took out the batteries for a couple of minutes and tried it again. Same thing can up. I did read somewhere about putting some files on a CF card. Do I need to do this?

Please help if you got the answer.

Thanks,
Dave

Just grasping at straws, but have you tried a soft or hard reset? If you do a hard reset, remember to backup first.

Hold down power button while pushing stylus into soft reset indentation. Make sure you backup first, since you will lose everything you have stored/installed into Main Memory.

Tried it, no luck. Is R64365 the correct file for the upgrade?

When I upgrade my AximX5 Basic I do it on this note:

"1. Extract files
2. After extracting the files, run setup.exe in the R64365
3. Create a Backup of your ROM in a place where you can find it (on your desktop say)
4. Install Hex workshop by running hw32v410.exe
5. In Hex workshop, open the proper image file from the dell download for your machine. (the one with H for 400, the one for L for 300)
6. Then in Hex workshop, open your ROM backup. You must paste the machine ID from your backup file to the 2003 .IMG file. In Hex workshop, this is everything from just after "A03" to where a whole bunch of zeros start. In my backup, it was 14 1/2 "quads" of numbers. Just select, copy, then select the same amount in the 2003 file, and paste.
7. Save the changed 2003 file as an .RIS file.
8. Now, use the R64365 setup.exe, and restore the changed 2003 ris file to your Axim. It takes a while. DO NOT TOUCH EITHER MACHINE UNTIL YOU GET THE 2003 WELCOME SCREEN. (although there were some that got hung up at the blue screen and removed the battery and backup battery, I did not do this. The system reformats the empty space on your Axim, and this takes a bit. Restore process was about 20 mins on my system.

IF YOU ARE UNSURE ABOUT ANY OF THIS, DO NOT DO IT!!!! IT WORKED GREAT FOR ME BUT I AM FAIRLY TECHNOLOGICALLY ADEPT. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK."
