Would like to know if anyone has ever tried watching a dvd movie in a axim x50 running wm2003se? Saw software the converts dvd to pocketpc format, but are they any good?

Just do a search here for Betaplayer and you'll find that lot's of people here have converted DVD's for Pocket PC use.

I could never get it right until this program called fairuse wizard came out. There's a freeware version that just simplifies the whole process. Again a search here will get you links to that program and links to a couple of user guides for it.

The Betaplayer Fairuse combo along with the X50v has made one of my original reasons for buying a Pocket PC come true.

And of course, Welcome to Aximsite!

How does betaplayer work? If I want to transfer an old movie such as casablanca,do I first convert the movie into an avi file in my computer? Do I then use betaplayer to convert that avi file into a format that my axim x50 can play? I have pinnacle studio 8, and I have Dazzle digital video creator 80 to transfer my old VHS movie (for ex. casablanca) to my computer. If you have time, please share some wisdom!!!

BetaPlayer (Now called TCPMP) is the software you install on your Axim to play the .avi file. It doesn't do any conversions, just a player. Like WMP but a million times better! So you can use your pinnacle to get the VHS to your computer then copy it to a memory card and play it with TCPMP. If you have DVD movies you would like to convert. FairUse is free and works very well. Again, when you are done you play them on your Axim using TCPMP. The links are in my sig. Enjoy~

Here's a guide that will walk you through it using all freeware:
http://www.pocketmatrix.com/guides/dvd2divx/

FairUse is an all-in-one app that will do it too.

Pocket DVD Studio is my favorite app but it's not free.
It lets you edit the start and stop points which is good for cutting out the credits to make the file even smaller.

PocketDVD is an other commercial (not free) app that some people have had luck with.
I didn't like it but it does give you a fully functioning 5-day trial.

Can I use Fairuse on my lord of the rings dvd, let's say the fellowship of the rings? I have the trilogy set, and I would like to have all 3 in a sandisk or compact flash, and watch them while I travel overseas. Even though, I have the original dvds for them, will it not allow me to copy due to some sort of lock in the dvd for copyright purposes?

I have never run into a disk that FairUse could not do. If that is the case however, you can run it through DVD Decrypter first and then use FairUse with the .iso file. Speeds things up as well. Good Luck~

On the betaplayer, which one do I download? I'm running windows mobile 2003 SE 416mhz, axim x50. Is it the Arm, MIPs, sh3 or the setup? The latest version is .66. Also, I'll try the fairuse light edition to try it out, and since it's free.
