Home menu - use shortcuts or executables?

I seldom see posts about the Windows Mobile “Home” menu. Perhaps hardly anyone uses it.

I like storing some types of apps –- for example MX calculator and Bluetooth Manager and my SMS reader -- in Home because I’m an ex-Palm OS user and thus familiar with accessing popular files quickly with the hard buttons and D-Pad. Hopefully WM5 will go a long way to getting PPC hard button functionality up near that of a Palm.

For those here that use Home, what files do you normally shortcut to the Home window: the .lnk files, which are themselves shortcuts; or do you prefer the .exe of the application itself? Are there advantages/disadvantages in using either?
