I lost all on BIS not on the SD...I was prompted with the tutorial when I switched it back on, just as if it was out of the box! Its all back on now, reinstalled each application and did back up files from my last sync.

Thanks all!

Well the backup battery should keep the settings for about half an hour... but that's pretty much the situation (apart from anything saved in BIS or SD)

By backup battery do you mean the one slot on the cradle or is there another backup battery inside the axim other than the main 950 mah? if so, then can I take the battery out for half an hour?
(and err.. what is BIS? )

Can you please go into a little more detail regarding this? I never imagined that I'd lose all the installed programs and settings if my battery is drained or taken out. :(

Your axim has a backup battery which contains enough juice to allow the Axim to retain it's data if you have to swap the main memory. So if you have more than one battery you can swap them without wiping anything

If you do a backup and save it on your SD card (with either the built in util or sprite) you should be able to get all of yout info back if it goes completly flat.

BIS is built in storage.. a type of memory that doesn't get wiped when you run out of power.

One of the members here( Stoneraven) has written an excellent memory tutorial for beginners. It helped me out when I just got my axim and you can find a link below
http://www.aximsite.com/articles/link.php?id=253

Hope that helps.

Thanks.. this makes things more clear for me.. I'm gonna take a look at the tutorial right now. :)

hmm.. read the tutorial.. lotta stuff I didn't know of.
I installed everything in default location and some of them might be in RAM. I want to transfer them to BIS.

You can also have it plugged into a power source while you change batteries. It's not like the Axim will say "OMFG NO BATTERY!" and erase all data while there's still 110V coming in or would it?
