copying music to my axim5

Hi folks,
My name's Mike and I'm a newbie. I recently bought a new axim5 advanced and I am trying to copy MP3's from my desktop to the axim.
I have my ActiveSync set up right (I think it is right, it connects and syncs OK), but when I try to use the "Copy to a portable device" function in Windows Media Player, the player on the desktop doesn't consistantly "see" the Axim.
Sometimes if I lift the Axim out of it's cradle, replace it, and promptly open up Windows Media Player, it will see it for several minutes. During this time I can copy one song, maybe.
If anyone can give advise on this mess, I sure would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance
Mike

Hi shyrlock You could just copy and paste between the music on your hard drive and your Axes storage card. Use file explorer on your desktop. That's what I used to do until I got myself a memory card reader.

Thanks, Bobby
Cut and paste works well with my old music that I downloaded back during the good ols file sharing days. However, now it doesn't always work wiyh the pay to download MP#3's. Perhaps it doesn't get the lisence info right?
Anyhow, what is a card reader? What does it do( reads cards, duh?)and where do you get one?
Do you know if it's possible to download and re-install Win Media Player 9? I've messed around with mine so much I think it has gotten screwed up.
Thanks,
Mike

A card reader plugs into a usb port on your pc or laptop and reads or writes to any type of flash memory card that particular reader supports. Some card readers will support many different types, cf, sd, mmc, etc., some only support a few. Available at most any computer supply place or office products place and of course online

Concur. You'll get much faster copy performance if you copy to your CF or SD card using a reader (or PCMCIA adapter as I do in my case). Copying huge files across the USB can be slow as you have discovered.
