help, i am freaking out...

I am slowly giving up with this here now.

A few hours ago I spent some time in the garden. I checked some stuff in the net, and then the system logged me to the connection of my neighbor, despite the fact that I had acceptable connectivity of my own station. Then I said, I should get this wififofum or hitchhiker. I downloaded both and when I wanted to open the zip file windows se (stupid edition) said that this is not a application, and I have to run the application first. No unzipping?
Boring. Ok, then I downloaded the total commander to be able to unzip. I downloaded the EXE version for pocket windows 2003 and when I tried to open the installation file I got this message: this is not a valid pocket pc application. I tried to download it from another source, same result. I spend hours and no sult, frustrating...
This pocket pc is supposed to make my life easier,
not more frustrating, right? What am I doing wrong this time? Thanks in advance.

i don't think wififofum works with the axim. i think it has to do with the wireless chipset that comes with the axim. i've tried installing it but had the same problem you did.

wififofum works just fine with my x30. download wififofum, unzip and copy the whole folder to your PPC with activesync. On your Axim, open file explorer, find wififofum exe in your ppc and run from there (turn your wi-fi on first). currently wififofum doesnt have any windows installer. hope this helps.

it seems as if wififofum is working if you download it on your desktop pc and then transfer it to the ppc via syncronisation.

But why do i get the message "this is not a valid pocket pc application" when i want to start the download of the program total commander or hitchhiker. I downloaded in
both cases the pocket pc version win mobile 2003se and nevertheless got these error messages. I don't get it...

As you've found out, there is no install file for wififofum, which works very well on the X50. All you have to do is unzip the file on your desktop, and manually transfer the .exe and the .dll files to a folder on your Axim. To run it, just tap on the .exe.

For Total Commander, did you download the .exe installer or the .CAB file? The installer should install from your desktop to your Axim through ActiveSync. The CAB file should be copied over to your Axim, then installed straight from your Axim (tap on the CAB file in your Axim and it will automatically install). I don't know about Hitchhiker but have heard it's a big buggy.

It's probably a .exe file that gets installed onto the PC first.

There is a checkbox in the configuration that will tell it whether to automatically connect to unknown networks or not. Un-tick the box and it won't automatically connect to your neighbours network.
Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.

Just to point out, your original problem of the WiFi connecting to your neighbor's network could be handled by unchecking the box "Automatically connect to non-preferred networks" on the Configure Wireless Networks page. Once you've unchecked it, hold the stylus on name of your neighbor's network and select Remove from the popup. You may need to get outside it's range before it will let you remove it.

Also, if your neighbor's network is on the same channel as yours, you may want to change yours to a different channel (keeping it on 1, 6 or 11).
