ARM, MIPS, etc.

Can someone explain to me the difference between ARM devices, MIPS, and the like?

I haven't had much luck in researching this on my own...

Here's another answer.

ARM = Every Pocket PC made since 2002

MIPS = Early Casio PPCs and some Handheld PCs

SH3 = pre-2002 HP Jornadas

StrongARM = Same as ARM

XScale = Same as ARM

They all describe the programs written for processor types. Back in 2002 MS decreed that in order to be called a PPC all new device must use ARM compatible processors.

Ikehiker wasn't kidding. This is one of the most frequently asked questions around! Nothing can stop it. :)

I look at it as a rite of passage for new users. j/k

I recently joined a new forum and I can tell you being told to search gets old quick.

Anyway, knowledge not shared is knowledge wasted. :)
