available memory
available screen space
perceived delay in refreshing desktop
Those will probably limit the actual limits in the OS itself

The OS has a hard limit of twelve or thirteen today plugins depending on the device, but it is usually thirteen. After installing thirteen, if you install another today plugin you will lose access to one of your existing plugins. To regain it you will have to uninstall an existing plugin. I have manually removed the registry info for the standard today plugins to allow me to install additional plugins since I don't find I have any use for them anyway.
Hmm... that kinda sucks for the Today plugin limit of 13. Anyways, good to know. Which registry value needs to be tweaked for that? Ken S, if you can let me know which value it is, that would be appreciated.
BTW, I'm assuming that the hard limit of 13 stays even if the plugins are not checked, right? Example, I can have 20+ plugins and check only two them, and all 20 of them will show in the Settings screen?
Or, is my limit 13 plugins will show only even if I have installed 20+ plugins?
H_Key_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items \* where * equals "Tasks", "Calendar", "Owner" folders. Just delete this folder/key and it will remove the plugin from your list of available plugins. If you have already lost a plugin from installing too many uninstall till you regain all your plugins first, then delete the keys for any plugins you do not wish to have available, then install the additional plugins you want.
The limit is on how many are installed including the ones that come with the OS, as far as I know you could have all 13 running at the same time as long as you have enough ram for it though I have never tried this myself.

Thanks Ken S. Will check it out. Much appreciated.
I don't know how you guys do it, I use several plugins on my today screen, and couldn't imagine (speed wise)having more due to refreshing. More power to ya...

I've got a leaked version of PocketBreeze which allows me to have up to five custom tabs in addition to ContactBreeze and PocketRSS integrated within it.
I have also recently been using the beta Wisbar Advance plugin Desktop which allows me to create virtual pages with today plugins on them.
So between these two programs I can use a lot of plugins while still having a full screen for PocketBreeze, WeatherPanel, PocketPlus and other plugins.
