WM2003 vs. Palm
I got an X30 624mhz and was wondering why anyone would pay double as much for half the CPU in a Palm? What am I missing?

Is this like a Win vs. Mac thing where Mac people will spend two grand on a G5 that takes twice as long to open Photoshop as a $300 Compaq?

Well, I don't always look at as a price thing or this against that. It depends on your comfort level with the device and sole purpose of it. Heavy graphic and photo users may do mac for some of its benefits over what a windows machine is. (Program compatibility) If, I was solely a palm person and it offered all that I was looking for and met my needs and took care of my business then there is no need for a ppc. Some people would pay the extra money to make sure they have the comfort of not having to learn something new or have the new item not work with their current setup. There are tons of different perspectives and I am not trying to stick up for one side or the other. I know this can turn into a flame post and I hope it doesn't. I just know that people can justify both sides. As long as it takes care of what they are looking for then they probably wouldn't mind the more expensive price.
I know I would never have a palm over a ppc. I have left palm for good. hehe There is no way I would go back to something that is so limited myself.

Also Palm apps make MUCH more effecient use of RAM. For strictly business purposes, it's great. Add-ins like Docs to Go are better apps than the Pocket Word and Excel apps in PPB imho.

With that being said, I switched from Palm OS to PPC last October and would not go back! I mean ... I use mine for business contact mgt; note taking; tracking business expenses; gps nav; mp3; encoded dvd viewing; wireless internet; games; pictures; lists; etc. Also, batteries are easily replaceable - not built-in like palm.

Now if someone would only write a tweak to move the scroll bar to the left side for us wrong-handers!! This is the ONLY thing I could do on my Palm that I can't on PPC.

Okay, aside from ram efficiency, does anyone have know any benefit of the Palm OS?

it's a lot more stable... as an os, most palm devices also ship with a better software bundle aswell.

It's all about picking the right device for the right person

I agree with Psionandy, the Palm does ship with a better software package but that didn't stop me from switching from Palm to PPC. I even wrote Palm and told them why I left which is that I got more for my money by leaving Palm to get my Ax 30h (then I started noticing prices falling, coincidence?).

I debated upgrading my Palm for a long time and waited for the release, then seriously looked at the Life Drive because I had so many Palm apps that I payed money for and loved. But in the end, I could no longer deny the price with Wi-fi and 64 megs of ram.

I still miss my Palm and don't see it as an inferior machine at all. I do think they are missing the boat with Wi-fi and at comparabe price, although they have lowered the Life Drive to be more price competitive. If they had done that sooner, I might very well still be a Palm user today.

I'm a recent 'convert' from the Palm OS and I can say without question the Palm OS is easier and more intuitive. By easier I mean most tasks can be completed with less clicks and sometimes with just one hand pushing a few buttons. The Pocket PC OS, which I am enjoying, has got some work to do catching up in this area.

From the reviews of the Windows Mobile 5, you can see they are working on this with adoption of 'soft keys'. In my opinion this is a good start, but they have a long way to go.

Also from my experience, the Palm is much faster and far more stable.
