i just talked to a dell tech person. he first said wm5 cds should be released sometime in Nov. then he said doesnt know the date, not confirmed yet. then he said could even be in dec.
next bit was interesting. he told me that first US gets it, then Europe, then Asia pacific, then China. he was like 'oh i haven't seen a chinese version of wm5, so china is going to get it late.'
x50s are no longer on dell.com.au website anyway...so i dun know if we are ever going to get any wm5 cds. i mean, aust mkt is small. maybe they decides to ditch us aussies altogether :p

From what I have heard dell oz WILL be releasing this - according to a one of their reps they had a memo about it and it should be available first half Nov. Of course, you can never be too sure but so far this source has been very reliable.
cheers

It's AUS$50.60 including shipping. Give Dell Oz (well, India) a call on 1800 812 393 and ask for the OS upgrade CD. They told me mine should arrive within 6 business days. Which is fortuitously close to when Dell have suggested a ROM upgrade will be downloadable to fix the bugs that some are experiencing. (bugs in a Microsoft product? Never....) :)

Well, I just ordered mine... we'll see if/when it gets here...
Just a side note about outsorcing the phone services to india. 2 years ago, you use to not tell you were on the phone to india. I mean, they hired/trianed people to speak with an American Accent. Now, man, they're just not trying! The first operator was very hard to understand, at least the person who finally took the order was quite effective with his english skills... although, he can't spell to save his life :) But eh,that's forgivable seeing as half the names in this country have an excessive use of duplicate vowels and whatnot :)
Anyway, here's hoping it shows up next week!
Chris

Doubtful, Chris! I just checked my order status and ETA is 23rd November. Never mind, I know it's on the way so I can be reasonably patient now. Really looking forward to the upgrade; as a recent Palm convert, there are 'features' in WM2003SE that irk me considerably and appear to be at least partly resolved in the new OS.

Thanks for the information guys.
I have just ordered WM 5 as well. Looking forward to trying it out.
Hopefully they are able to fix most of the bugs people seem to be having with it before I get the CD.

Okay, credit where credit is due: Dell now advise me that the ETA is 18th November. That sounds pretty close to the originally forecast 6 working days.
It's not posted, BTW, the cost includes shipping via courier to my door, or so the guy in India said. As damunkee wrote, $50 is pretty good value considering we Aussies usually get royally screwed for software and hardware prices (not referring just to Dell). There are other exceptions; when I bought my X50v, an extra battery was only $14. At that price, why would I not buy one?

I am not breaking my neck to get a copy of WM5 just yet - I'll wait for some of the bugs to be solved since my X50v is out of warrenty about now.
Yeah the $14 battery is a great bargin :)

That's exactly what I thought! So I picked one up. Anyway, just in case someone was looking for the $14 battery after they've purchased their axim, and can't find the actual axim assessories section, you can find them here Axim Batteries and such
The High capacity batteries are quite a bit more $60, but that's still a lot better then the $99 in the USA.

Update: Dell phoned me on Friday to check they had the correct delivery address for my WM5 CD. The courier attempted a delivery on the previous Monday but the package was ultimately returned to Dell marked "delivery futile".
The work address was in fact correct, and the Dell guy I spoke with -- actually an Aussie, or an Indian who maybe watches Neighbours and Home and Away on Mumbai TV and has perfected the Strine accent -- said this message generally means there was no-one at the address. I work for a major US company in Australia and the office is manned at the very least between 7 am and 6 pm, so it's doubtful no-one was around. Perhaps the courier simply couldn't be arsed driving all the way out to Hallam (outer south eastern suburb of Melbourne). Those familiar with Australian courier companies will appreciate the distinct probablility of this. There are some very good ones and there's also dross...
Dell said the delivery would now happen on Monday 21st November.
Unfortunately, the WM5 upgrade is moot for me anyway; I am in Hong Kong in December and January and for this trip I must have MapKing on my Axim. However the developer has just confirmed that it will not work with WM5 on an X50v. Bugger. That looks like I don't do the OS upgrade until mid-January when I get back to Melbourne. Oh well.

I got my today, Monday the 21st. It took 12 days... a little longer then they had said, but still acceptable :) Anyway, I may play with it tonight, or I may not, we'll see :)
Oh all in all it was 12 days to get mine and I'm in Perth.
