Question WM5 Upgrade (Australia)

Hey guys,

Has anyone seen a link to the WM5 upgrade for the X50v on the Dell Australia website. I must be blind because I have not found it yet.

Thanks,
Adrian

Well I just had a look and couldn't find it either.

Strange.
Dell Axim X5 Advanced (Broken LCD) > hp iPAQ H2210 (Broken) > Dell Axim x50v

Dell Axim x50v, 4GB Hitachi Microdrive, 1GB Apacer SD, Bluetooth GPS, VGA out adapter.
i-mate JAMin.

I don't think they will.

looking at US website, they only have x51v's for sale. & upgrades for x50 users.

whereas the aussie website has x50's AND x51's...

so they probably won't release wm5.0 to existing x50 users because it's not even available as an option for x50 users (au) that is?... dunno. no answer from dell & I tried 3 seperate emails.

I asked the question almost 6 weeks ago and got this reply on 30 Aug,...they "might"

My request....

I notice that the US Dell site is offering (USD39) an upgrade (shipped in October) to Windows Mobile 5 on X50. Will this be offered in Australia, any details available on cost and timing.

and the reply....

Thank you for contacting Dell Online Technical Support.

From your e-mail I understand that you would like to know if Dell will offer the CD to upgrade to Windows Mobile version 5.0. Regarding this, I would like to highlight that Dell do not offer the upgrade CD at the moment. However, Dell might offer the upgrade CD later this year in which Dell Axim X50 customers will be able to purchase the upgrade, expected to ship during the third quarter, on compact disc.

I'm afraid I could not provide you with any date as at now. Please let me know if you need any further assistance. Your case number is 1554632.

Thank you & best regards,

just had a look on us website and WM5.0 is no longer pre-order its available.

now looking on dell.com.au website the x50v is no longer listed... wonder if they are just listing all x50 low/mid/high till they sell out of australian stock, then they might list the WM5.0 upgrade?... just a stab in the dark...

still not available in au yet :-/

I wouldn't count on it.

Why? A year or so ago (I think early 2004) a friend and I attempted to obtain the WM2003 upgrade for our X5's from Dell Australia. My friend contacted them and was told that it was not available in the Asia-Pacific region (It was still listed on the UK and US site at that time). He persisted with his polite complaint (How hard is it to make a CD available?) for about a week and ended up talking to the 2nd in charge of the region and they sent him an X3 in exchange for his X5. I ended up purchasing the CD on eBay from the UK.

Long story short: If Dell's track record is anything to go by, the WM5 upgrade will not be available for purchase in our area.

Right - so I should just talk to them till they send me an X51v

No I wasn't counting on it... it was just an optimistic joke. I also get the feeling we will need to get it on ebay or via the US. Still waiting to see if it is really worth while though.

Well not only in Australia, the support and service in Latin America is really bad, beside they do not have the knowledege, are rude, angry and hang up on customers... I know I am not a sweet person, but...they are really rude.

Interesting post psionara - I asked a similar question to you soon after the WM5 upgrade was announced and got the same response from Dell NZ - word for word

I have to say, the whole situation is getting so frustrating I might just have to give up on Dell and go somewhere else. The new iMate JasJar from Vodafone is looking more tempting by the day.

well I have decided to give my x50v to my wife ( well as soon as her next paycheck comes in) and then order myself an x51v.

btw all x50's have now been removed from dell.com.au website...

Wife runs a business at home, and after she saw pocket informant, she wanted it hehehe...

so x51v for me in 2 weeks, flag the upgrade, get an x51v. so i'll be going from this to this to this
