WM5: more problems, no access synchr.

In this case, there is another one to blame completely on Microsoft again...

Have you been able to synchronize any Access file?

I have not.

So, I contacted one of my fellow developers, a specialist in databases and He has informed me that currently ActiveSync 4 can’t synchronize access databases. I should point that ActiveSync 4 still not officially released by Microsoft. And when this happens probably a module is going to be released to allow the Access Databases synchronization but this is not been officially confirmed either.

Have you been able to synchronize your access database?

wow!...
Could you look for the extension .cdb and tell me to what application that extension belong please?

There is not any such application called Microsoft Pocket Access but there exist access databases formated to be used in your Pocket PCs. That's what I'm talking about. There are applications like Data On the Run or VisualCE that can open and handle Access Databases in your Pocket PC. And there was a way to keep those databases synchronized with copies located in your PC. That's what is not working now.

I contacted Softick about Card Export II PPC and they say that they are working on a WM5 version. When this is released at least you will have a work around without having to use a card reader until another fix is found.

Pocket Access does - or rather, DID - exist, only I don't think it's ever been on Pocket PCs. I know for sure it was on the older Handheld PCs - the clamshell things, like the Jornada 720; I used to own one. I sold it to get my Axim. It even had Pocket PowerPoint too, and that was back in what... 2000? It's taken so long to even get PowerPoint on our modern Pocket PCs, and even that is only a viewer...!

I can't remember if Pocket Access synced with ActiveSync though. I think it did?

Come to think of it, that Jornada was a really nice little computer... its a shame it wasn't supported too well software-wise, and didn't get updated much. I guess its because it came out around the start of the whole handheld "era". But yeah, it had all the Office stuff. I wonder why they didnt bother with Access on the new machines?

there was a Pocket Access application, but it was never released in the PPC nor Windows Mobile version... it was then a Windows HPC-only software...

For such a long lead time to get devices into the hands of users, I would expect more from the new Activesync and the WM5 OS. So far, it's been one let down after another. Migrating is really a waste of time and productivity.
