Network Administrator throwing a wobbly!

My Network Administrator has just thrown a wobbly :realmad: because I have installed my x51v (WM5.0) on my PC at work. He was quite happy with the old x3 but is very unhappy with the new arrangement as the device installs itself as another PC on the network. Presumably this is Activesync 4's doing rather than WM5.0.

He is concerned that this is now introducing a weakness in his network defences.

Any one else had the same problem or come up with a suitable (clean) response?

well, that's causing me problems too. The AS4 and the X51v creates another network adaptor in my Network pc at work, disconeting the real network adaptor and my pc from the network. It took me a while to figure out why my PC was disconnected from the network. For a network administrator who has to set security policies for each computer, set firewalls, antivirus, etc. This could be a problem if all your coworkers decide to connect their X51vs ;)

I don't know up if that's real but if your X51v is listed in the list of PCs that belong to that domain like I said before it could cause him problems with AVs for example. But lets listen other opinions because I'm not a Network specialist.

ahh nuts...
I use my x50v at work, and am a local network admin. However I do have a zero tollerence policy when it comes to people connecting in other computers to 'my' network. If Pocket PCs start looking like computers we may have to just say no, Otherwise I'll spend a lot of time chasing down these 'rougue' pcs only to find they are axims

Sweet merciful crap! The news just gets worse with the X51v & WM5. What was MS thinking or were they thinking at all with the downgraded features of activesync, it's buggy, clumsy interaction with the desktop, and PDA OS too unreliable for me to use at work. Now this! I'll never be able to sync at work because of these irrational choices they've made! Hell, I'm glad Dell canceled my order for the upgrade for the X50v and I think I'll send the X51v back too.

I don't think 3.8 is compatible with WM 5.

I suspect this will delay my upgrade to WM5.

ANyone has tested WM5 with AS 3.8? Even if working for IT I may get a hard time to connect it too.

Especially since 4.0 is not in the image!

Activesync 3.8 did not work with my X51v. I tried it. So far, Microsoft just dead ended me to WM2003SE and AS 3.8. I buy a PDA to simplify my personal and professional life, not complicate it. If I can not sync at work and home, a PDA is of no real value to me. Thanks Microsoft!

Did anyone tried to Sync via BT or WiFi with WM5 and AS 3.8?

I do believe that Microsoft made it where it is impossible to sync WM5/w AS 3.8
