Problems for my PenPower + CEstar

Any Chinese guy here with my same problems?

I got x51v on last week and installed chinese plug-in (Penpower). After that, all messages/attachments inside pocket outlook disappear - only white blank screen.

Also, Penpower input method can't activate.

I reset/reinstall more than five times but not working.

Can you view Chinese if you do not select PenPower during installation?

Yes, you can view Chinese without PenPower installed. What you can't do is find an as-yet-unknown character, use PenPower to write it and have the recognizer recognize it. (It's not always easy for a beginner or intermediate to find a character they don't already recognize or don't know how to pronounce.)

My suggestion: try Mactiontech's Monster Chinese. They have a WM5 version that was thoroughly stable on my Axim x51v. I foolishly uninstalled it to reclaim some space and when I tried to reinstall it...well, it was a bit of a mess. So, I've gone back to CEStar, which has always caused problems for me and whose tech support has always been out to lunch. Or perhaps moved to a parallel universe.

CE-Star 2.8 works in WM5 (It works for me). Monster Chinese also works except you will get small menu fonts.

For the outlook problem, it is the regional setting the cause the trouble. WM5 do not have the Chinese option in reginal setting. The default is English(U.S.A.). When you active sync, any double-byte character is recognised as two single byte character in text fields like notes and messages.

Even if you installed the Chinese system and changed the regional setting to Chinese(whereever), the notes and messages will still show garbage because the locale were set as English. Active sync will not update the fields unless you make some changes in the source, your PC's outlook.

So you have to install the Chinese system first and make sure the regional setting is Chinese(whereever you are). Then do the active sync after. If you do the reverse, just delete everything in Pocket Outlook and sync again.

Hope this help.

Monster worked much better for me than CEStar. In fact, I've just uninstalled CEStar 2.8 beta 4--same old same old unreliability. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. Plus, it really slowed down my Axim x51v. REALLY. Also, 2.8 beta 3 and 4 didn't give me the option to install anythng to a memory card. Monster did and I leapt at the chance.

I never noticed that mactiontech slowed down my system or slowed down my reading. But then maybe--probably--I read slower than you do.

Now all I have to do is figure out what I did when I uninstalled Monster the first time (because I was trying to save space) so that I can correct it, whatever it is, and reinstall Monster.

It's beginning to sound like Chinese IMEs are idiosyncratic and decide, all on their own, whether they like your setup or not. So this may be one of those things where only you can tell wheter it works or not.
