Printing via bluetooth on WM5 x51?

Is there a way to print via bluetooth using a WM5.0 x51? PrintPocketCE is not compatible from what I have been told and am curious what others are doing to be able to print via bluetooth. Thanks for helping a newbie.

I think the software was taken offline until their new version is released (which is supposed to be in the beginning of November).

Exclamation

From HP:

Since 1992, HP has been committed to delivering a high-quality, complete printing experience for customers using mobile devices. Because customers can use similar mobile printing software offerings (see list, below) that are compatible with Pocket PC and Windows Mobile OS platforms, HP has decided to focus on other areas of its mobile printing and imaging strategy where solutions may not be so readily available. As a result, HP will discontinue HP Mobile Printing for Pocket PC and HP Mobile Printing SDK for Pocket PC, effective October 1, 2005. Any current customers / developers may receive basic phone support for six months thereafter, with all support for these products ending on April 1, 2006.

Alternative printing software for Pocket PC devices can be found at:

PrintBoy for Pocket PC - www.bachmannsoftware.com
PrintPocketCE - www.fieldsoftware.com
JetCet Print - www.westtek.com

Thanks for the 411. I've glanced at the sites you posted up and will be looking into more detail to see what is compatible with WM5. If folks have experience with a program that works, post up thoughts, review, etc.

Also, just curious if anybody knows where one can still obtain a copy of the HP Mobile Printing? Trying to determine if that's even a consideration even though it's been removed from their site.

As always, thanks for anybody's insight, etc.

Here's what I've found so far:

PIEPrint
  • WM5 compatible (their well known PrintPocketCE is NOT)
  • Prints HTML ONLY
  • Cost is $24.95
  • Trial version available
http://www.fieldsoftware.com/PIEprint.htm

JETCETPRINT
  • WM5 compatible
  • Prints HTML, "Email and Email Attachments", BMP, JPG, PNG, "PIM -Appointments", Contacts and Tasks, PXL, PWD, RTF & TXT
  • With purchase of additional software it can also print PDF, PPT, DOC & XLS
  • Cost is $8.99 and cost of additional software to print all additional file types will cost $29.99
  • Trial version of JETCETPRINT is available
http://www.westtek.com/pocketpc/jetcet/

PRINTBOY
  • Does not state that it is WM5 compatible, enough said

So....

I d/l the trial of PIEPrint and have successfully printed via bluetooth to a HP DeskJet. I will probably end up d/l and trying JETCETPRINT as well as I'd like to have the option of adding the ability of printing other files types in the future. As for right now I have simply converted the forms I feel that I need to be able to print from my PDA from a DOC format to HTML on my computer and transferred them to my PDA.

Hope this helps others looking for a WM5 printing solution. Be sure to report your own feedback as you try different options as input is always appreciated!

The only problem with that, is if you want to print .doc files, you also have to buy clearvue to go with jetcetprint to get what you want accomplished. They charge you for every little thing.

Hmmm...I downloaded and tried to install JETCET Print, and just got an error message--

"JETCET PRINT install was unsuccessful"

Are you sure that JETCET PRINT works with Mobile 2005? During the install, you have to choose between 2002 and 2003, and no option is available for 2005. I choose 2003 and it would not install.

Update on incompatiblity of mobile printing with Mobile 2005

I have received emails from the following confirming that their mobile printing software doesn't work with Mobile 2005 --

HP (of course)
PrintPocketCE
JetCet Print

And only JetCet Print mentioned that they would be developing software compatible with Mobile 2005.

ClearVue Suite Professional does it! I just downloaded an evaluation copy, and am successfully printing RTF documents from an X51v to a HP450wbt using Bluetooth!

If anyone comes across a (completely) mobile printing platform that works with Mobile 2005, please share!
In terms of a general printing solution that will work on WM 5, try ActivePrint 4.0. While it doesn't print directly to a bluetooth printer it will print either through your ActiveSync connection or through a TCP/IP conntection to a desktop's/laptop's printer. The result is compatibility with just about any Windows compatible printer on the market.

You can try it at http://www.ActivePrint.net.

Also, I just released the ActivePrint x5 service (http://www.apx5.com). Instead of having client software on the device you keep a client app on a Windows XP computer that has a printer. To send print jobs you send files as an email attachment to your apx5.com email address. The advantage with no client software for the device is it will work with any mobile device that supports email, whether it's a PPC or Blackberry.
