The cd is due to arrive today but I'm somewhat concerned about installing it. I have a x50v and everything seems to work. Will WM5 screw me up?What is the UPSIDE of upgrading?
Any advice would be apprieciated.

You should be able to go back if you don't like it. Check the doc first though.

I would like to upgrade just to see for myself if it is any better. You know if you don't want your disc... :)

Nah have fun mate, I don't think it will be a backward step and the new memory management looks good.

Cheers

I had an Hp with wm 5 for exactly 2 days. Slow...menus were terrible. I don't know about memory management, but I am definitely staying put as long as I can run the apps. My imppression is that merging the phone version was a BAD IDEA.

I just read there is a roll back to WM2003SE on the Dell website... You should download that and if you decide WM5 is no good... you know what to do :)

I'll wait until they have WM5 version of OzVGA/SE VGA, ForceHiRes to say the least before upgrading.

I'd upgrade if I were you.. the battery life will be much better and you'll never have to worry about battery drain hard resets. and if you don't like it then you can always go back to 2003 SE.. nothing to lose. :)

When I bought my X50v, I accepted the current battery drain condition, and have learned to live with it. It has never been an issue and won't be an issue for another few weeks or so, until those VGA hacks become available. I absolutely need ForceHiRes and OzVGA for the applications that I use frequently.

Excuse me, I am new to PDA world and I just ordered my X51V from Dell.com (on route shipping). I know this PDA will come with WM5.0, but since I know my current navigation software (iGuidance) may not work perfectly with WM5.0, is there any way I can rollback to WM2003SE on X51V ?!

Thanks.

There is an upgrade to iGuidance that is compatible with WM5.0 to 2.1.3; you can get it from the iGuidance website if you are a registered user from their "support / downloads" page

Unfortunately I'm not... I got it from eBay as used software and I couldn't contact the original owner now... :*(

I have upgraded and glad I did. View MyPDA for a review, where apps are installed, and which apps worked.

No major problems here.

No major problems except for slower response sometimes. Also, the PDA is locking up and not turning on after power-down. Requires a soft reset. This never happened in 2003SE.

Some older programs didn't work--some did. I'm not in the mood to downgrade, but if I had the time, I probably would until the new ROM update.

HTH,
Scotty
