Guess I have to change my response about WM5 upgrade. At first it was working fine, didn't have any slow downs or problems. But just now tired to turn on my PDA and got memory corrupted error. Tried soft reset it didn't help. Tried hard reset and I'm stuck at the window asking to press calendar icon to finish hard reset. Axim doesn't respond to buttons anymore. Taking battery out doesn't help either.

Try connecting it to AC power. It seems like there might be a battery drain problem on the upgrade. Maybe your battery is too low to allow it to hard reset.

I tried downgrading after I did the upgrade. The PPC2003 ROMs will not load once you load up WM5. I also noticed my Built-In Storage went away. :-(

there is a utility on dells site to allow you to go back to 2003se, do a search for it, and try that. And no, just downloading a 2003se rom will not overwrite wm5. The utility should do the trick though

Boy they got us all now!! LOL Look at all of the X50s they disabled with WM5. Now they're gonna lower the price on the X51's a little. I am sure they'll work it out, but we should get something for being unsuspecting Beta testers. Actually I have had many Betas that had fewer issues than WM5. :rolling:

I would be interested in a Pocket Linux OS. Or what about DOS Mobile? LOL

WM 5 X50v Memory Failure
Just to follow up, on my post yesterday. Called Dell to report my bad memory problem and within 24 hours I had a replacement X50v. Excellent Customer Service! I set it up and will not be upgrading to WM 5 until the bugs are worked out. I think something is running in the background when the device is off that is taking the battery down rapidly (Maybe Activesync). A friend who has a X51v has been having the same problem although without the fried memory. :)

I just got off the phone with dell cs again, they are going to send me a new x50v they are convinced it is a hardware problem I tried tellingthem about activesync in the background and stuff.. but they don't seem to accept it. so I am getting another axim that they are going to walk through the upgrade with me... apparently an application developer that does some development on these things can't handle upgrading the rom...lol. But what are you going to do, they hold all the strings. I just hope that they finally figure out this is software and not hardware. OH well.

I am holding wm5 in my hand and that is exactly were it is staying. I have been reading most of the posts the last two days and the responses seem to be getting more then :)

technically if you upgraded your axim you would still be "holding wm5 in your hand" just in a slightly different form sorry to twist what you said, but I could use a laugh right now and that was it. I'm sure it is going to get better, but I wish it had been more throughly tested before release

Just an update on my experience. I have my Axim working perfectly with WM5. Microsoft has on their site a troubleshooting guide that gives instructions on how to set your firewalls to allow the AS connection. It works like a charm now. I have loaded only 1 program on it(The Dog Ate It) and it is more responsive than WM2003SE. I am going to install one app a day to see which apps are not fully compatible.
All in all, you should have no problems if you don't install any 3rd party programs on your Axim after upgrading. That's the trend I have seen so far.

I upgraded to WM5 and have not experience any problems. However, some programs made by astraware don't work with WM5. Bejeweled does once you download the update utility. I haven't had any problems and I have most of the programs that I had before. So I could say that I had a positive experience.

What problems have you had? The problems I have had are due to my firewall and 3rd party program compatibility. If you can tell me why WM5 specifically is not working for you, then by all means let us try and help.
I see a lot of positive feedback from people who are using WM5 successfully.

Upgrade went well
I took the plunge last night - with the exception of ActiveSync and my firewall not playing well together (no connection - just constantly trying to connect until I configured the firewall) - no problems to report at all.
I've installed PI, WebIS Mail, Wisbar Advanced 2, WAD, PB 5.0, Pocket Weather. Minor problem with Wisbar advanced desktop, but according to their forums, they are already working on it, and given their track record for upgrades, I'm sure that will be running just fine very soon.
Response time, and general performance of the x50v seem about the same as with WM2003SE (I loaded just about everything to BIS under WM2003SE, so that may explain it).
