I've come to the conclusion from all the WM5 threads that it's not worth upgrading my x50v. I'm going to see if DELL will give me a refund on the upgrade CD. Wish me luck.

I don't mind change as long as I'm not around when it happens.

In jest they say you have to be 10% smarter than the hardware you're working with... j/k. ;-)

Seriously though it really sounds to me like you aren't getting a "hard reset" when holding in the power button and the reset in at the same time... I know it comes up to the welcome screen but DONT touch the screen! if possible leave the unit it the cradle and do the hard reset... it's tricky but I did it.

worst case scenario call Dell.. but try that first... I SECOND the uninstall of ACtivestink reboot and then fresh reinstall... trust me it saves you trouble!

Argh.. this is infuriating me.

1. Uninstall AS and reboot.
2. Install AS 4.0 and reboot.
3. Start update program and do the first reset.
4. Connected to AS but the updater just sits there.. no buttons to press.
5. If I press ENTER, it takes me to the next screen but Continue button is disabled.
6. Rinse and repeat.

I tried it on a fresh XP install under VMWare.. install works without a glitch (except for the excruciatingly slow USB performance under VMWare).

So what's the matter with my machine?

yjchung, does that mean your upgrade finally worked under vmware ?

I am having the same exact problem as you but do not have vmware to try...

Yep.. worked under vmware running a fresh XP SP2 on first try. So there's definitely something up with our systems.. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling ActiveSync so many times my eyes hurt.

I had issues with the setup myself. After the first hard reset, my PC couldn't see my x50v anymore. I had to move the cradle to a different UPB port after each hard reset.

Tried all 6 usb ports on my machine.. nada. I'll try it with my work machine later and see what happens just for giggles.

Ok, Finally .. got a copy of vmware and was able to get the update going ... Now have a new problem ..Active sync reboots my PC upon connection with my Pocket PC.

Does not even give me a chance to find out the problem ..

Did uninstall and reinstall of Active Sync but still doing it ..

yjchung: what is the default browser on your PC? I had the same problem where the "continue" button doesn't appear after doing the 1st hard-reset. On that computer, firefox was my default browser. On another machine where my default browser was IE, the "continue" button appeared and I was able to upgrade my ppc. If IE is already your default browser, maybe there's a security setting in there that is preventing the "continue" button to appear?

Tomkat: when you say "reboot", do you mean BSOD? If so, I had the same issue and haven't had one since I removed all the bindings except for MS client, F/P sharing and TCPIP for the connection that is associated with the Windows Mobile-based device. You may want to check out http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...c/default.mspx for more details.

Yes, I think it was BSOD although it was rebooting quickly tho..
I followed your recommendation and it worked. Thanks.
