WM5 CD recalled by microsoft

first off see my other thread here

I get a call last week about the CD to confirm reciept again, well i live in miami and my cell was not working properly thanks to wilma (still dont have power by the way) anyways when i call yesterday to tell them i dont have the CD still, even though they "two day aired it from DHL" for me, the guy puts me on hold for like 20 mins to look around. I ask him what is wrong and he tells me there are no more available and that they arent shipping anymore. I said to him, so microsoft recalled the CD's and he's says yea looks like it, im searching for a part number and dont see one.

Then he tells me i was informed of this, well that dell attempted to contact me and i "hung up on the representative". At that point i lost it and yelled at the guy saying how dare you tell me that, i was just hit by a hurricane you ........ (fill in there for me) and i havent had cell service. so then i told him i dont have time for this and said goodbye (being sure not to hang up on him)

even though its past the 21 day return policy for me, im thinking of trying to return my X50v that i got in august, i mean i ordered it with the promise of a WM5 cd and they are not delivering on that promise, therefore i have not received my order. I mean arent i legally right in that respect.

Anyone else had this issue?

That is odd. Maybe it is just for the "free" upgrade CDs. I ordered my "pay" upgrade CD for x50v just last week. Received it yesterday via DHL.

Good luck.

Dell Halting Upgrade CD Shipments?
Posted by Jason Dunn @ 11:05 PM

We received an email from Clinton Fitch today regarding the Dell Windows Mobile 5 upgrade CDs that's rather disturbing:

"I have been on the phone with Dell for the better part of an hour regarding the upgrade for x50 and x50v owners - both the free upgrade for purchases since July 2005 and the for purchase upgrade. Apparently Dell pulled the plug on the upgrade CDs being shipped. What few did ship had serious upgrade issues and Dell decided to go back to the lab. The problem as they stated was that they did not have an ETA on when this will ship. In looking at the Dell site, they are offering the upgrade for sale but they will not be shipping it until they get whatever issues they have with the upgrade itself."

I have a call into my Dell PR contact to get an official statement, so far no response.

The language barrier sucks. Any call to Dell always raises my blood pressure to unhealthy levels. I do realize it's not the Operator's fault, and they may be as frustrated as we are, but something's got to give. I definitely feel for you on this.

FYI - I was in business in OK City last month, and saw they built a HUGE Dell facility there. I wonder if some customer support will be based in the States? Too much wishful thinking I guess, but I'd prefer talking to an Okie over someone 6,000 miles away anyday!!!

Microsoft Pull A Dell CD?

Actually, it does not sound like Microsoft pulled the Dell CD. At the start of this thread it sounded more like it was suggested to the tech and he just "took that" as his way out of the conversation. Microsoft is pretty clear about saying that the PPC OS is the responsibility of the OEM, not them. So if the CD was pulled, it would have been pulled by Dell, not M$

On the other hand, myself and a friend of mine got ours right away. We had the notice Friday emailed and had the CD via DHL first thing yesterday.

Both of us have installed, and all is fine on our X50v units. While some programs are not yet compatible [the developers are wayyyy behind in some cases], and I can't give a thumbs up or down, there are some definite pluses in going from SE to 5.0

But, point is, no horror stories here. All upgraded fine.

Well im not trying to perpetuate any hoax but that is what the DELL person told me. They called me since though and told me i should receive the CD on Nov 11. They also appologized to me for the delay and the treatment i received from the tech support guy. Maybe there are trying to be better? naaaaaaaaahhh

I ordered my 50v in aug along with the promise of the free mobile 5 upgrade CD, well i called in mid Oct to inquire as to shipping date of the CD.. I was told I would get it by the first week of NOV.... Well as of today nothing... so i called and got "kimberly" in the Phillipines, at least her english was more than passable.. she agreed i was due the free upgrade and she would call me in a week to see if it arrived yet. i'll let you know what happens.

I wonder how many of you calling Dell daily just to scream at them, well it seems like they need to be called everyday just to make sure something is happening.

I got mine blindly in the mail yesterday. It may be a good thing that yours has not arrived. Many of us are having problems with connectivity to our PCs through Active Sync 4.0. I'm looking to roll back after hours of troubleshooting.

Microsoft has a workaround for the ActiveSync connectivty issues. Go to their mobile website. Worked for me.

When you have a good bit of info like that could you include the link? If someone needs it, they are probably already frustrated and not in the mood to search it out. :bang:

I'm still waiting to even get my copy of WM5
