Active Synch 4.0 not working after WM5 Upgrade

I went through the WM5 upgrade process on my X50V with no problems.

The main thing I have encountered though is my Pocket PC will not Sync.

When I place it in the cradle I get the little "ding" noise from the PC but the status in ActiveSync just registers "Connecting". It gives me no option to create a new partnership, etc...

I have removed and reinstalled ActiveSync 4.0.0 (Build 4358) from the disk I also recieved with the WM5 update from Dell.

Any thoughts to why this will not work?

Thanks!

Silly question but have you rebooted your PC?
If you get dead silence after breaking the speed of sound, would you be in the darkness after passing the speed of light?

Do the following, start Activesync but do not put the Axim in the cradle. Delete all partnerships (file -> Delete Partnership.) Reinsert teh Axims for a Sync. Let me know

I have the same problem after "upgrading" my X50v to WM5 last night. ActiveSync 4.0 just says it's "Connecting", but there is no opportunity to create a new partnership. I've uninstalled and reinstalled ActiveSync 4.0, with no improvement. I've also tried to use IR to sync, with the same result. I can move files back and forth with IR, but no syncing. I'm about ready to reinstall WM5 from scratch to see if that helps.

I may be reverting to WM3 before long if this continues.

Activesync is the biggest pile of crap ive seen..

It's so damn buggy, and its a LOT slower then 3.8.

It takes my computer around 2-4 minutes to recognize that my pda has been put into the cradle compared to the near instantaneous connection with 3.7 and 3.8. Oh it also manages to slow my computer down to a crawl whenever its syncing, WTF?!?

WM5 on the x50v is pretty decent, Activesync 4 blows, the leaked beta 4.1 isn't that much better either.

I don't know what the deal is with 4.0 I guess I am lucky. I did not delete outlook or active sync. I updated active sync, and deleted the partnership when advised to do so in the instructions. I wonder if a conflict exisists somewhere and what it might be. So far I have not had a single problem with activesync except for avantgo, which is the latest version for wm5.
You have already spent your 2 cents and I do not accept credit

I might be asking a stupid question but, how will you be able to reinstall WM5 if you can't synch? Can you do this via IR? Did you delet your old partnerships during the upgrade?

Also, I have a Audivox SMT 5600 Smartphone that has no problem Synching. I also have upgraded to ActiveSync 4.1 with no luck.

You could make sure you are connected to one of the primary USB ports, usually in the back of the computer.
And using File Explorer on the Axim, go to My Device-->Windows-->Active Sync and deleting the {B4FEW@SDF-usually has numbers and letters here} file.
And in Settings--> About-->Device ID, make sure the name there is the same name as is showing up as the partnership name in Active Sync on the computer.

Upgrade to WM5 went without a hitch. But here's the rub, I get a
Version Conflict Detected
"This version of Microsoft ActiveSync is not compatable with the conneted mobile device. Please upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft ActivSync and reconnect."
Error dialog box.

Prior to upgrading I removed my partnership in 3.8, installed 4.0 and upgraded my x50v to WM5. Went to sync after the 2nd reset and I get the above messasge. Cannot explore the device. Tried blutooth and ir sync and get the same result.

Tried removing Activesync, rebooting, about 3 times. tried AS4.1, Disabled firewalls...

As a last ditch effort I went over to my girl friends laptop and installed activesync 4 and it worked. She never had any version active sync installed before.

My conclusion is that I have something left over from AS38 on my laptop that identifying AS as a version prior to 4.0.

My question is does anyone have any detailed instructions on how to revmove ActiveSync completely? I do not want to reinstall win xp pro, SP2.

Thanks
