Don't worry too much I can't find a powerdown either. The shutdown program I used to use does not work...I am sure a freeware program will be along soon.

I think you are talking about different things. On the X51v, under Start, Settings, Power, Power Button (tab) is an option to really power off the device (such that appointments, alarms, etc. will not 'wake up' the device and it uses no power). This was not an option before WM5 because power always had to be supplied to ROM to keep from doing a hard reset.

If you are looking for what I think, try psShutXP. It works with WM5.

Has anyone tested psShutXP with WM 5.0 on an upgraded X50(v)? The only reason I ask this is that the 2 things that are keeping me from re-upgrading to WM5.0 are the issues with my device losing battery (and AS might be doing it, from the looks of this issue) and a problem with wireless networking requiring me to soft reset after turning on the wireless card so I can connect to my work AP.

I figured they wouldn't put a full shutdown option because the x50 has a backup battery. It wasn't designed with full shutdown in mind.

Are you saying that the x51v does not have a backup battery? The point of the backup battery is to allow one to swap batteries without losing the contents of ram. Does swapping batteries on the x51v make the device do a soft-reset?

Tried psShutXP and it doesn't appear to work as expected. I set a calendar event to remind me in 1 minute. I run psShutXP and the screen turns off. After a minute, the device wakes up with the reminder. I guess it didn't work.

There may be some shutdown utilities for smartphones and WM5 supports smartphone programs... so I'm checking those out.

My understanding is that the x51 does not have a backup battery. It has some thingy that's supposed to give you a few seconds to switch batteries, but I've heard a lot of complaints that it doesn't work--namely that swapping batteries soft resets the machine.

The X51 has a capacitor instead of the backup battery. I'm not sure if that avoids the soft reset or not with a battery change (I only have one battery for my X51).

I didn’t mean to imply that psShutXP would do the ‘true power off.’ It doesn’t do that on the X51, either. It just puts it into the ‘classic’ PPC off mode which is what I thought you were looking for in your post (as opposed to what pkenyon was referring to in the first post).
