Active Sync thinks I don't have Outlook ???

Just upgraded to WM5.

On establishing a new partnership, I get a message I cannot use ActiveSync until I install outlook.

I HAVE Outlook from my Office 2003 package, with SP2.

I did not have this problem before upgrading. I've opened Outlook, restarted my computer, etc.

Anybody know the solution?

I'm grayed out, see attached picture.

Here's what I did:

Uninstall ActiveSync 4.0
Uninstall Office 2003 SP2
Re-install Office 2003 without service packs
Re-instll ActiveSync 4.0

I'm having the same problem with Outlook from my Office 2000 installation. I'm thinking of installing the new version that came with the Axim and trying it again. Haven't been able to figure out why, and any of the helpful suggestions that it gives you don't do a thing.

I feel stupid to say this but make sure Outlook 2003 is set as your default mail application (You can do that by opening Internet Explorer, Tools>Internet Options>Programs and select "Microsoft Office Outlook", and OK it) Otherwise ActiveSync will keep giving errors.. Apparently just installing the damn thing is not enough any more. Are these guys trying to take over the world? I am quite happy with Thunderbird..

If they were trying to take over the world, wouldn't they have just set Outlook as the default without your permission?

Yeah Outlook was not my default email application.

That does not mean I wouldn't like to sync notes, tasks, calendar items, etc.

WTF? Thanks alot Microsoft.

After the reinstall it probably took over my default email setting long enough to get AS to sync... but for naught I'm back to WM2003 anyway.
