the fact is adobe reader is unusable unless hacked to true vga.
you can zoom in as much as you like and its nice and clear

as for other apps i agree... thats why i never used SEVGA

for ebooks/pdf, you can customize the font size to be comfortable to you, most support profiles which is convenient.

for web browsing, PIE font size could be too small for long time browsing. It sucks that WM5 didn't made any improvement on good PIE VGA support.

the font pixel doubles unless you force HI_RES_AWARE. by default it looks like ass in vga

pocket IE is fantastic especially w/ full screen mode.
forcing it into vga wont do anything because it is in VGA already

So I got Adobe to work and it is awesome. If PIE is already "HI RES AWARE", why does it not act like it? What about pocket word or excel? Where do I find their EXE files so I can copy the MUI files into their folders?

I thought TCPMP supported VGA natively...does anyone know? (especially interested for X51v)

I've got it working on other apps apart from PIE.

From reading this thread, I gather Microsoft haven't fixed the bugs in PIE with images 'pixel doubling' in WM5?

Wow! Thanks for the program and the post! This is wonderful. I love Avantgo and I was suffering withdrawal pains (no NY Times) without it. It looks just fine now! Super work.

True with WM5 but with WM2003SE, Pocket Word has a bug that makes it only 99.9% VGA.
Many have noticed that in WM2003SE, the Word file selection dialog box displays random corruption --- this hack will fix that.

Strange but it works.

And the SETSECURITY.EXE is not necessary for WM2003SE -- only WM5.

You have to run the setsecurity for the MUIs to work in WM5?

Is there any actual security disadvantage to doing this? Like, what if it is possible for an attacker to try to automatically execute a prog via 802.11, BT, or PIE exploring, and this might be the only way to stop the execute? Or is that not possible on PPC to begin with?

Oh yeah, also, is PIE not native VGA already? I am confused... Everyone says it is not, but when I look at the fonts they are obviously VGA (at least to me, because I can make them super small). Or do people mean the images themselves?

My x51v with WM5 is my first PDA I've ever used and mostly have every seen so I've not seen QVGA or WM2003SE so I don't know what problems are unique to me or not :(. WM5 seems great to me so far...

setsecurity 'off' will not compromise your security
PIE is native VGA

Wow. Acrobat is absolutely staggeringly amazing now in VGA mode. It was crap in QVGA mode, I can see that now. Also I figured out I can get landscape to work as long as I set landscape when Acrobat is not loaded or hidden. I am taking classes and all of our research papers are in PDF so now I can take all of my info with me! In VGA mode it is very readable to read a PDF without reflow turned on. Is there a way to stop tagging the PDFs, since the tagging process has been kinda useless anyway (since the autotag feature blows)?

Is the virtual Earth mobile thing truly free? It looks like it is, and I am running it. Man... my PDA does so many things now I want to cry! IMHO, the PDA is MUCH more worth it than laptop because I can put my PDA in my pocket but I won't carry my laptop around indiscriminately. I am 100% glad I went for x51v with VGA and fast CPU and 2700G now as well as WM5 over WM2003.

Yep, completely free. It's a great new program that has gotten little exposure.

Yeah, I've been using it all day. I wrote a message to the author about the fact that it always starts up in Redmond. I looked at the source code and I was amazed at how little is different between .NET for desktop and .NET for Pocket PC. The license for the source seems to allow me to modify it so that I can make the startup configuration how I like it (ideally configurable in the general case).

I really like how it caches data for viewing offline, but it would be cool if there was a way to download a cache of a city or area automatically rather than just scrolling around. I got a map of my city (Rochester, NY) in two zoom levels in 2MB of cache (I've allocated 10) and a detailed zoom of the very confusing downtown area, which should be sufficient for ad-hoc direction finding of the main streets.

I suppose since I know the cache structure and the code I could make such a program that would run perhaps even on the desktop to allow explicit map caching. Programmability was one of the main reasons why I was so excited on PDA vs iPod, and I see now that I was right!

I'm glad the x51v has 256MB of built-in storage! I've yet to fill it up yet. But my 6GB microdrive in the mail yet still will be easy to fill up with music, pics and video ;).
