guess what, Avantgo works for me. Maybe you have to "exit" avantgo from the memory and run it again. this thread really rocks. thanks, blutrane

yes you would have to unload the app from memory and restart it for the changes to take effect

There is a program called ozvga that is a utility which will change everything into VGA mode including the today screen, the toolbars and status bars. It works for WM5 and I found it on another forum. I don't know if it's freely distributable. Anyone interested can PM me.

OzVGA is free...
ALthough you need a patch to for it to work and a special VgaRes.zip

Hi Henybass, You said it works for MW5. I tried it. It switches to VGA mode but when I tried to use IE or note, it gives me error. I believe it is the keyboard which does not support VGA mode. Do you have similar issue?

Yes, unfortunately, the MUI files will not work in WM5, if they are unsigned, without running this program. I tried it without running it, and was stumped, until I understood that (it's discussed in the link of the original post).

So...now my PDF files look *gorgeous*. Thank you!

Can anyone else confirm, though, that besides the splash screen being messed up, the options windows for Acrobat also look funny in VGA mode? That's happening to me, at least.

Unusable? Really? Or is it that you just don't like it. Adobe Reader seems to work fine on my x51v.

OK, he did say "unusable" which is a little extreme about acrobat on x51v, but in QVGA mode the text is quite markedly degraded. Upgrading to VGA mode makes the text many times more readable and also allows you to zoom out more while still being able to read text. Pictures and graphs are also at 4 times the resolution in VGA than in QVGA.

Yes, the usability is life-changing for things with fine print like scientific articles. And, ahem, I just uploaded about 100 MB of my most recently downloaded ones to my CF card. :D

Yes I was using PDF for viewing scientific papers myself, so that I can carry those formulas around with me when I get bored to try to figure out ;).

To load a 1.7M PDF file takes my x51v about 3 minutes (using that wrap function to make it resize). Is there any way to speed things up?
