Memory error, now x50v won't turn on

I went to turn on my x50v today and it just displayed this text box that said there was a memory error and I had to press the contacts button to return to factory settings. So I did, but then it warned me that doing this will erase everything and asked me to hit the contacts button again to continue ore the mail button to cancel. I wanted to check forums and see if there was a way around this problem first, so I hit the mail button to cancel. Now I can't even get my pda to turn on to the error message. This is the third time I got the error message, but usually it just reset and worked fine. Is there anyway to get my pda back, or do I have to send it in for servicing?

I put it in the cradle, and it turned on. Except now it's reset and I have to install everything again. I like wm5, but has anyone else gotten a memory error like that? Did I do something wrong?

I had this exact same error. I emailed Dell and with no questions or anything they just sent me a new one, I then send the ole one back in the box and everything is free of charge on my part.

Yeah, I had the same problem twice. What did I do? Rolled back to 2003SE. When no major bugs are reported here again after a Dell Fix Update IŽll return to WM5. Got tired of dead battery every morning.

I got the same message a couple of times after upgrading to WM5. I did a hard reset and restore the last time and it's been error free for 5 days now. Hold your breath.

you will get those errors every time the battery runs down. hopefully they fix the battery issue in the first update. If i don't leave the pda on the charger overnight it will kill it every day and thats when i get those errors. i have tried all the suggestions but it still kills it. Still not willing to go back yet to 2003se. more pain before i would do that.

I had an interesting day with WM5. I just installed yesterday, and I had my first memory problem within about 3 hrs, while it was in the charger, I reset it, and my battery was at 99%. I went to bed, and when I woke up, the memory error came back, and the battery was full when it was reset. Then I had it in my pocket for a few hours, and when I got it back out, the memory error was back again. This time, I wasn't able to reset, and was forced to do a hard reset, but it still didn't work. So I decided to call Dell, and it decided to come back on (battery was at around 50%) while i was on hold. They said they would replace it free of charge. I will not go back to WM5 until I know it works. As of now, WM2003se is fine. Its not worth messing with.

Same problem, but I can't get the 50v to complete the reset. The progress bar gets to about a 1/4 inch from finishing and quits. I've tried resets, hard resets, no battery still the progress bar stops at the same place. WM5 worked for about a week the the memory errors started and finally it doesn't complete the reset. I called Dell and RMA'it. Anyone have a better idea?

I got it to run (with the exact same situation as you) after a hard reset, and waiting about 20mins for it to finish.

This has happened to me several times now. I wonder if maybe some software is incompatible with WM5. I originally had the latest version of pocket plus (trial), latest spb diary (trial), ms reader, tcpmp and adobe reader with the vga fix (mentioned in the other thread here) installed.

When I did a hard reboot this morning, I decided not to install the spb apps and the vga fix - I'll see if that made any difference tomorrow...

I had the same problem. Started the hard reset at 6:20am, left for work and returned at 5:30pm-still stuck in the same place on the progress bar. I email dell, and got a new axim about 36 hours after the email was sent-NO QUTESTIONS ASKED-and not even a reply to the email I sent. They must be having MAJOR issues with this or they wouldn't be so free with their replacements. I am wondering if people with the free upgrade (newer axims) are having this problem, or is it just with the older x50v axims, so they replace them with newer ones? I still haven't upgraded the new axim and I won't until some software update is available-it was a nerve wracking, time consuming, PIA experience-with very little of an upside (at least for the non-power user that I am).

For those upgraded X50 with battery problems, try to disable any Battery Indicators (SPB Pocket Plus, PocketBreeze etc) in the today screen. I used to have similar problem, but after disabling the features, now the pda works perfectly!
