Mad

Anyone have any idea when M$ or Dell may release an upgrade that fixes this WM5 Hell? Almost two months since I received the discs and tried WM5 ... no relief!

Just out of curiosity, I have an X51 that came with WM5. Damn thing bugs out all the time and I have to reset from time to time. NO GPS detection whatsoever which pisses me off cause I used to use to alot not I'm navigationaless.. Anyway, how long is the downgrade procedure? Did you do a backup of the data first? If so can you restore the data after the downgrade? Thanks!

oh yeah, I echo the sentiment about the sadness of how many poeple want to downgrade, but really wtf was Dell thinking??? releasing such a buggy product especially when there is such a strong following of the Axim line! rant over....

Successful Downgrade

I don't understand what kind of problem you're talking about...

I downgraded so I'd be able to use my map software and GPS. It takes a couple tries because it has to take ~10 minutes to reformat the Built-in-storage and then resets and rewrites the ROM. I think mine had to reset ~4 times to get it completely right. You just need to try it and follow the directions that pop up...

Everytime that I tried to downgrade, the ppc would shut down and wouldn't do anything, I even tried one time and left the machine running for about 15 minutes. When I came back it was still in a blank screen that I could only get out of by hard reset.

I contacted Dell support and for once in their life did something right... I explained all the trouble I was having with their stupid upgrade.

They replaced my Pocket PC and reimbursed me for the WM5.0 upgrade CD. Sure I had to return the CD, but at least I have a perfectly good working and reliable Pocket Pc.

OK, I want to downgrade becuase AS4 will not recognize my X50V running Wm5. Company firewalls cannot be altered, so I'm stuck with no connection.

Question? Without AS4 recognizing my Axim X50V, how do I downgrade?

As4

When you installed AS4, did you delete any registry entries and all of AS3.8 completely?

This was a common problem when people left any shred of evidence that AS3.8 had ever been on their computer...

If not, you need to uninstall AS again and make sure there is no evidence you had it on the computer, in the first place.

Then you should install AS4 and it should work.

Done the downgrade, but.......

I have went back to 2003se, but I am wondering if there are things missing. I have trouble believing that Dell brought WM5 to the market in the present condition.

I haven't been able to locate the switcher program that is used to close programs running in the background. I have installed Magic Button, but wonder what else didn't get installed or is misplaced.

Thanks for the info.

Switcher

Switcher is originally found under the Settings section of the Start Menu.

I personally use (and have used for at least 2 years) vBar, found on www.freewareppc.com - the only annoying thing is their website pop-ups, but that can be disabled...

As4

I downloaded AS 4.1 after fighting with 4 for hours. I tried reinstalling 3.8 with no luck. The new version saw me right away and I was able to downgrade.

Hope that helps!

Hello People! I'm new here.
Woahh... I was wondering if was only me that was sad with that stupid WM5 upgrade for my X50v. So i tried to find out any "relief" round the net and then i found AximSite.
Now I feel better to know MANY people hated WM5!
My X50v works like a turtle with WM5, very buggy, freezes all the time. The batery has always been a negative point to x50v, but with the upgrade, it got worse.
To sum up: WM5 sucks and I really going to downgrade after 4 days using it!!!
Thanks guys!

I got my upgrade in early Nov, tried it for about 10 days and then went back. Recently I tried it again (with all of the tweaks and bells that were recommended), and today, I went back to 2003 once more. It'll take something big for me to try that again...I am mad about the amount of time spent trying it all...

Switching from german to english WM 5 to be able to downgrade to 2003 SE

I "upgraded" my Dell x50v from 2003 SE to WM5. Garmin CfQue GPS software does not work anymore and Garmin confirmed it would not work with WM5. Super... the links for the downgrade posted in the first thread do only work on english WM5 installations. A similar routine for other languages does not exist. So all except english WM 5 users are stucked with downgrading.

Is there a possiblity to change the german WM5 to an englisch WM5? If that would be at least possible I could use the downgrade routine again...
I would have never done the upgrade otherwise considering all trouble...

Thx for any help
Bobby
