After downgrade from WM5 to WM2003, my Axim x50v was working soooo slow for while. I had to perform hard reset several times... There was a white screen and nothing... Then screen aligment curson was moving slow. Finally it works again...
Yes I just noticed this too, and sure enough after a few resets it was good again. I'm just glad to be back with WM2003SE. Sure it had its bugs too, but nothing like WM5.
After 2 months, I gave up and went back !! YIPPEE !
Had to do a hard reset for a different problem, since I was doing it anyway, I decided to do the 2003SE downgrade. Boy, the x50v is a "sweet" machine without WM 5.0. No major problems going backward, but I thought they could have provided a little more information on the process.
One question, it seems like some features of WM 5.0 stay when you do the downgrade. Does anyone know about this? So far, it's running great !! :) :) :)
Hey, the links aren't working for some reason (tried the VGA one since I have an x50v). They just go to a page cannot be displayed error...i've tried refreshing...any ideas???
I have the x50 low. I have never upgraded from the A01 ROM. Will the update you posted for QVGA give me a newer OS? I am dowloading it to my desktop to hopefully give me an upgrade.
thanks

You're not going to believe this !!!!!!! Replacement PDA
Finally caved in and went back to WM 2003SE last week. (Battery drain and soft reset daily still issues) Everything went smooth, and as everyone has said, mine was back to normal. But when I started to load programs back on, I noticed that the Built-in Storage was missing completely in WM 2003 SE. After checking here for anyhing similar, I contacted DELL chat. The first 5 people (and 4 hours worth of time) were really no help at all. They never seemed to understand the problem. But the last one suggested re-installing the 2003SE OS.
Of course, you have to re-upgrade to WM 5.0 before you can use the downgrade program again. So, I pulled out my WM 5.0 CD's and started again to go to WM 5.0. One quarter bar into the upgrade to 5.0 for the 2nd time, and it stopped - FOREVER. As other people on the site have said. I now had a high priced paper weight. Nothing could be done. Clearly, I don't need to tell any of you what was going through my mind. Fortunately, I kept all of my chat info - names, times, etc. The 6th new chat person I talked with online said they needed a few minutes to review my case. And no lie, they came back right away and said they would be sending me a replacement PDA right away. (I purchased my original x50v in October of 2004) 2nd business day later and a refurbished x50v arrives with 2003SE installed (with BIS working) Who would have ever thought that DELL would have sent me a replacement !!! :) :approve: (they still need to fix WM 5.0)
Thank you guys. Being non-expert, after up-grade to WM5 I suffered all the pain you can imagine. My PDA for me is a simple tool to access Medical DB as a pharmacist. It was really pain after the up-grade. I mainly use 3-4 programs for drug-drug interaction, uses, side effect, compatibility ...etc. It took like for ever to get data with lot of hung-ups.
Downgrade was the best solution for me ... everything seems to work perfectly. THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING THE LINKS.
Can it work for the X51? This WM5 is really crap and I just got it 3 days ago. Everything I read about the issues that the Axim's had, the white screen of death, unable to power up withn CF is occupied and all that other crap is as real as it gets.
Hello to all. Main reason I purchased this unit was for my wife's business. Also included was Dell GPS. Problem is, her business software needs Microsoft Access, and it appears M$ decided to delete it in WM5. GPS works great, but I really need Access. Can this X51v be downgraded, and would that correct the problem?
I have seen several posts about X51v downgrade abilities, but no answers.
Thanks in advance for any info!
