I haven´t tried WM5 yet but if this downgrade works I totally agree with you. This should be a sticky since I have a "hunch" that many people wish to downgrade!
[Whats the difference between the 2 files (yes I can see the QVGA/VGA!) I have an x50v and I upgraded to WM5, I want to downgrade.
It was a standard WM2003 install on there so should I download the QVGA one?]
The x50v has a VGA screen, while the x50 does not. That is the difference as I see it. I have an x50v that did not survive long enough to be downgraded. Dell ended up sending me a replacement.
Hmmmm, judging from all the people are having upgrading, I think I've been pretty lucky, everything works fine for me except TomTom, which is a compatibility thing anyway.
It was a bit slow at first but a soft reset did the trick, also I've noticed that if I leave it for a few secs after a reset it works better than if I start using it straight away. It seems like it's still doing some processing even though windows is loaded.
I would not remcomend to those of you who run gps on your pda to upgrade to wm 5.0 . I did my everything went well during the upgrage, but then Hell started when it come to using the gps. Bluetooth take much longer time to find and connect. Drop in and out too frequent, the anoying pw set for bluetooth to connect (you can't get connect without must enter some damn number in) make no sense at all. Spent 4 hours and called it quit. Went back to wm2003, everything work normal as it had been.
All and all wm 5.0 Sucks
i have a x50 and i recently upgraded to wm5 and i hate it. I need help on downgrading back the the wm2003. is there somewhere i can go to get the wm2003 installed or is it all on the origanl Dell windows 2003 campanion cd. PLEASE HELP..i also saw at the top of this forum that for links to qvga and vga. i have an x50 and i dont know which one i need.
Download the appropriate file, for my x50v, it was the VGA one. Then put your PDA in the cradle, make sure your PC isn't doing anything (same for PDA) and then run the downloaded file. Its pretty much the same process as the upgrade.
Once its finished the install, it'll format your cards which may look like the system has hung, it can take 10mins+ for be patient. Once thats done, your downgrade will be complete :)
Its pretty straight forward, just don't use your PC while its taking place. The whole process should take about 30 mins. After 15 mins, you will be asked to do a hard reset, I did this with the device still in the cradle and it worked fine. :)
