I'm trying most of the suggestions on this forum.
I hate the Active Sync starting on its own everytime I put my Axim in it's cradle.
I'm learning a lot from all of you.

Thanks,
Karen

Just out of curiosity: it sounds to me like this fix can also be done with a registry setting here or there. Anyone know where? Saves a bit of clicking etc

This may be a silly question, but how does this affect installing applications to my PDA?

Not at all. The only thing this fix does is keeping activesync from starting 'in the middle of the night' so to speak. Activesync will still start up normally once you actually connect your PDA to the PC

I think this really works - 1 week now, no soft resets so far - several a day beforehand. Well done whoever worked this one out. Is there some way to broadcast this more widely - I keep seing other postings from folks facing similar issues (eg missing CF card)?

Just download activesync toggle from micrologics.co.uk (version 1.0.4.0 also works correctly with mobile 5)
and use it to start/stop active sync on your PC.
Turn your axim on and off while active sync on the PC is down and it will charge through USB and never wake up by itself. :approve:

I think I can help you with these two. Disabling Error reporting did not seem to have an effect on my processor speed, but disabling automatic syncing (and activesync startup) did. The new activesync is a dog, even worse than it was on WM2003SE and makes my x50v almost useless while running. I will list the steps to disable it. Note that you will still be able to sync, but AS will no longer start up on it's own.

1) Start up AS on your x50.
2) Tap the menu tab/soft key and tap "Add Server Source"
3) Configure a server source with a dummy IP address, user id, password and domain name; these do not have to be real
4) Once configured you should have another sync source show up on your main AS screen...continue on.
5) Tap the menu soft key again and you should see that the sync schedule option is no longer greyed out.
6) Change your schedule from a timed automatic start of AS to manual under both fields
7) If you try to sync now, AS will try to contact your imaginary exchange server and that will take forever until it times out, so you can now delete the exchange server from your list of sync sources. Your changes to the sync schedule will remain and will survive soft resets too.

If you have a switcher app running (like vbar) you will find that when you close AS it will now stay closed and you should see a corresponding increase in speed.

Post some feedback and let others know if this worked for you. I am not really sure if this is what sped up my x50v but I know that it no longer slows down to a craw on a regular 5 minute schedule and AS only starts when in the cradle or when I start it for BT syncing.

Brialliant solutions.

Even after 3 years, this solution is still working..

Good Job

So it appears this fix works on the x50 and the x51v? Is that correct?

I ask because I just purchased an x51v (Side note: It is supposedly brand new. It comes from a medical company that used to assign the x51v units to their visiting nurses in the field. They had 2 unopened X51v's that they purchased from Dell and have had in storage for 1-2 years.. pretty cool).

I'm just wondering which Activesync it is likely to come with (I have not received the X51v in the mail yet). Should I use the latest activesync (is that 4.5?) and then apply the fix? Or use an earlier version activesync (4.2?) and apply the fix?

Any downside, side effects or problems with using this fix?

Thanks for helping out a total newbie :o
