Lot's of WM5 Questions (Memory, Bluetooth, Lack thereof)

I'm very confused. I thought this was supposed to be an upgrade.

I cannot control the allocation of memory anymore.. I have only 2 3rd party apps installed (Astraware Bejeweled 2.0 /came with upgrade disk and Battery Pack Pro 2.1). When I play mp3's in PPCWMP10 I cannot go anymore than 2 minutes into a song without my axim telling me I have low memory. The first time I heard this message I went into memory settings and noticed that the drag bar was missing.. Is this just me?

WTF happened to all the lovely bluetooth profiles? I can't find anything or I just did look hard enough. Why are all of the good things missing.. I can't complain about some of the newer applications.

Why do we have to be the one's to suffer. Did they release this in hopes of stopping the rants and raves or was it the fact that it started out being called Windows Mobile 2005.. Then is was renamed to 5.0.. 2006 is right around the corner..

I think I might send in for a replacement before my warranty runs out. But then again I need my axim everyday.

If anybody has answers for these rants I'm willing to pay for the response..

And I'm sorry if it seems like I'm blaming it on anybody from Aximsite, cause I'm not.. I'm just venting cause I don't know where else I could go but this most informative site.

Thanx everybody..

I am with you on the horrible decision to not provide BT profiles in WM5. In WM2003, I can switch between BT connections of active sync at home, at work, and connections with my GPS. What logical reason would they take this away?

After installing WM5, it would not allow me to install programs to my SD or CF card. These choices were grayed out.

Also, if Outlook 2003 is not your default email profile, WM5 grays out your ability to sync notes, tasks, etc.

Also, I have more program AM available running WM2003 "fully loaded" with programs and using memory wisely (~32MB, 40MB total), than I have with WM5 with a clean install (~27MB)

The current WM5 for the X50v is a downgrade indeed.

Atleast we are all not so alone with these problems. I will most likely hope for a really awesome ROM update within the month.. But, I wouldn't want them to rush it like they did with WM5

I fully agree with you about the Bluetooth. However, when I installed WM5, I have 60 MB free!!! Also, the slidebar is not nessecary because the RAM is devoted completey to program memory, there is no more storage memory for RAM, in other words, you can only put programs in BIS, SD, or CF not RAM, so, therefore, it is not nessecary. Also, I cannot understand why SD, or CF is grayed out. Have you tried resetting? Overall, I am satisfied with WM5. For me, it is much faster. I am very selevtive about which programs I install. Do not just mass install programs. I was forced to switch back because the Dell GPS doesn't work with out the "FREE" update, but the "FREE" update doesnt work with out the updated maps........... A $99 investment. *sigh*

BTW, you can always go back to WM2003SE instead of getting a replacement

I'm not sure how ksong lucked out, but my newly installed WM5 with NOTHING RUNNING only leaves me with about 25MB of free RAM. Another 25 are permanently in use, presumably by the OS. And the other 14 are completely unaccounted for.

As for flashing back to 2003... good luck. My attempt to do so resulted in a completely crippled Axim. The "align screen" part of bootup was obscenely slow, and once I finally got in, the whole machine was running like a snail. A soft reset made it worse... I never got into the OS again. I had to reinstall WM5 all over again.

This thing is a complete failure.

But this is also pretty much where the x51v is with WM5 native. And I have never had a low memory error in anything. I understand that you have different expectations, based on what WM2003 was like, but WM5 seems to work in this specific regard as long as you treat it like WM5. Are you getting any errors or problems because of how much free RAM you have? Opening 8MB PDF or PPT files doesn't seem to be an issue for my Axim, in spite of having PIE and Mail running in the back.

Not that there aren't problems. There certainly are. And I also certainly think the BT issue is one of them.

Since I upgraded to WM5 my Axim's been messed too. I have the Axim X50V (624mhz, I dunno if there's other models at different speeds like the X30) and I have all programs closed, error reporting turned off, WiFi and BT turned off, and it still runs at full processor speed when I turn it on the "auto" setting. One thing that REALLY annoys me is that it randomly closes Monopoly when I'm playing it. It shouldn't be because of low memory, I wouldn't think anyways...that's the only 3rd party app I have installed on it.

This can be overcome. When you downgrade, WM2003 runs slower than anything you can imagine, right? Well, from WM2003, start to do the upgrade again. Only when it has you do the first reset (before it actually upgrades to WM5), leave it that way and things will work magically fast. There's another post on here somewhere where I read that, tried it and haven't had a problem since. Lighning fast.

thanks for the advice!
Just a Question, would that be the same as doing a hard reset?
