Cool Answers From Dell (Good News)

I personally called Dell technical support about all these issues people are suffering from when it comes to Windows Mobile 5.0. He said it was all Microsofts fault and that Dell will be releasing a ROM update shortly (in less than a month) to fix most of what has become a major problem for all Axim X50/50V/51 owners. Including Jerry the tech guy himself.

He said that basically Microsoft released a source and told handheld companys to finish the rest instead of releasing a finished product for the handheld manufactuers to make drivers and software for. So not only is Dell working on releasing a fix but M.soft is working on 5.0se as we speak.. I will not get my hopes up but it sounds like we will get our moneys worth when it finally hit the end.. Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel for 5.0 users.

Jerry also told me that he would personally get Dell technicians to look at Aximsite.com forums to see what 5.0 users were complaining about and have that information turned over to Dell Dev's

You welcome..

PS. I also recorded the phone convo and will be transcribing it so that everybody will know what specific issues will be under the scope by Dell Dev teams..

Good to hear. Maybe we should make a thread for things MS/Dell needs to address/fix.

And the light is not the lamp on an oncoming freight train.

That's the comforting part :)

5.0se? I'm thinking they'd fix this one first.

I would bet, and you would agree, Dell and MS are reading these
posts daily.

Dell and Microsoft are equally culpable although MS deserves most
of the credit. Responsible, intelligent parties at MS and Dell
surely worked on the release of WM 5 many long, long hours.

Reading this post as well as numerous printed articles, I wonder
how many hours of productivity were lost? How many hairs were
pulled out? Any tears? Lost data perhaps?

No excuse. Even when fixed, Dell and their "partner" MS, should
do something nice for the pocket PC communities!

I wonder if Dell will offer WM5se as a free upgrade to those of us who purchased the WM5 cd? It would be the "right" thing to do.

I don't mind change as long as I'm not around when it happens.

I use outlook w/ a domino data connector i'm sure thats the issue though it wasn't in 2003SE =P

I had no doubt... but '' he would personally get Dell technicians to look at Aximsite.com forums to see what 5.0 users were complaining about and have that information turned over to Dell Dev's" made me laugh. I bet they are lurking all around. It would be stupid not to...

Why would they do either, when they can get more money for developing WM5se? Fix 1st ed. problems, and introduce a lot more new ones...

I hate to be negative but I suspect you might have a wait. http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archi...16/493281.aspx and http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archi...05/489475.aspx suggests there will be an update pack from microsoft early next year, but then HTC / Dell would need to integrate and test. I REALLY hope there is an interim ROM update, but it's tight with Christmas in the way

I just had another look at my order confirmation from Dell and I just wonder if it is a coincidence that they list WM5 as Magneto - so maybe the ROM upgrade is not so much of a fix but is the upgrade and we are just being shipped a beta version just to keep up with the market?

just my $0.02
