OK, i've been using wm5 for about a week now, and so far I find it is better than 2003se in a few ways. mainly not having to reset after turning on/off wifi, and having 1 location to install programs is easier to manage, ( as selecting mainmem/bis/sdcard) then doing backups of the install files to folders to make sure I can re-install in same locations) = pain.
upgrade took a total of about 20 minutes with no issues ( twice, as I downgraded once :-) then thought AHHhh whats the point, go the new gear!!!! :-) )
so everything installed in mainmemory now, apart from big apps & games.
so far programs that are working fine for me with wm5.0
Main memory:
need: Muitestandfix
wisbar adv II
ilauncher
Pocket Breeze
Pocket Weather
Pocket Informant
Total Comander
psshutxp
ubook reader
pocketrar
ptvl tv listings ( syncce doesn't work so change listing data to /mydocuments/ptvl on desktop & pda) then Activesync does the sync for you.
tombo notes
wifiknife
tcpmp 0.66
sdcard:
pocketrss
pdamill Oceansoftime
WordnetCe
Skype
vga solitare
tripyatzee
mooregames
wifigraph
had a total of 85+ applications installed on 2003se, and starting to reload 1 by 1.
have had:
1: white screen of death - soft reset fixed.
2: Frozen PDA due to wrong version of Wisbar Advance Desktop - Hard Reset - now not installed.
3: Problems accessing wap54g Access point ( WM5 would not see a network with a hidden ssid - enabled show ssid, set security to mac address now it's cool)
4: softkey buttons on the bottom of display is anoying as it reduces your overall display space, but living with it...
5: NO freeware SAFEMODE app yet :-/ yikes...
everything is reasonably snappy, now and then it goes slow, and I've done the
ActiveSync/exchange mod
disabled security notification
adjusted cache size
Still AS sometimes will not shut down after removing from cradle causing slow pda, with wisBarII I just close it and it's fine.
Randomly the pda will stick on 624Mhz in auto about once every couple of days, but goes away after about 1/2hr use.
I've been using it about 3-4hrs a day, and if Dell come out with an update, maybe that will fix the battery drain & WSOD & CPU locked on max problems that ppl have been having ( I only have the last one)
so far after probably about 3hrs+ use and battery drain to about %30 left on one day is as far as I got in drain, so seems ok for me in that regard.
I have a HiFi BT headset I can't use anymore due to stupid m$ BT stack, maybe oneday someone will workout how to hack the Broadcomm BT stack to work on a x50/51 one day.
All issues I've spoken about here are in other posts, so look there first for solutions, to me for most of the issues, the solutions don't realy work for everyone... can only try
Oh also I havn't updated 'My PDA' yet as I have a bucket-o-load-o-more apps to install yet...
:approve: :approve:
palm = no tweaking and instant use + less dodahs to play with = boring
PPC = MAX tweaking and short time before usefull + buckets of dodahs to play with = fun :approve:
or another quote I just thought of: quote stevodude "PalmOS is PocketPC for dummies"
