I have followed the tweaks to prevent Active Synce from repeatedly trying to start when not connected to the cradle. Although this fix does not seem to survive a hard rest, it is a great fix that helps improve performance immensely. However, it is still a bit of a pain that it connects and tries to sync every 5 minutes when in the cradle. ActiveSync 3.x had an options to allow you to sync upon first connecting and then not sync again unless you manually requested it. There does not appear to be similar options in AS 4.1 except for schedule options for a "true" exchange server.

Has anyone figured out how to prevent this constant attempt at sync'ing?

Whoops. I meant "hard reset" (not "rest") in my last posting. I guess fooling around with WM5 causes one to need a hard REST every now and then :)
