Persistent Memory WM5

Hello,

I am wondering if it is possible to configure WM5 to not use persistent flash memory for the OS. I am worried about wearing out the flash chips.

No, that's hardcoded and can't be changed. On the other hand, you shouldn't need to worry about wearing things out. Flash memory is pretty durable.

The screen and battery will go first.

It won't wear out that quickly. Like EngrPaul says, other parts will have a shorter lifetime anyway. Why are you worried about the flash in particular?

Well, the flash rom chips that are on the motherboard are good for about 250000 writes. I browse the web a lot, and I'm worried that the constant cache writes will reach that total at some point, rendering the device useless.

I believe that each bit on the rom chips is good for that rewrite number and they automatically load cycle so that one free bit doesn't get more use than others. You should never see a problem in the life of the unit.
