wifi running by itself in WM5 x50v upgrade

OK, I've seen it posted before that possibly wifi is running in the background in the WM5 upgrade, but it's assumed that there is no green flashing LED, etc. Well, I just did a soft reset and it looks like wifi is trying to connect by itself. I reset after surfing the web using wifi, because my x50v was running slowly. I am 100% positive that I disabled wifi before the reset.
After the reset, the wifi icon at the top is indicating that it is attempting to connect, i.e. the little arrows are moving. No blinking LED, though. If I press the wifi button, it tells me to press the button again within 5 seconds to enable wifi.
Today Warrior is showing no wifi activity. WLAN utility shows wifi as off. Processor is set at auto, runs at 208 MHz, does not go down to 104 MHz. Battery is draining pretty quick, Axim is sluggish off and on.
This seems like good info, but I'm fairly inept at troubleshooting, maybe some else can find it useful. I'll leave the settings like this and answer any questions if need be!

I get the same indications with the wifi symbol and flashing arrow much, but not all, of the time. However, based on processor speed, as you indicated, wifi does not seem to be actually running.

I find great fault with the wifi connection bars appearing only at the bottom of the screen because unless you are on the Today screen, you cannot see them and therefore it is not obvious if you've either lost a connection or have dropped to a very weak signal. When it was at the top, it was visible whatever screen you were on.

Wi-fi can be a bit quirky. Sometimes even when you have used the Wi-fi On/Off button you still need to go into the Dell utility or whatever client you use and turn it on or off there too and then soft reset. Once that's done it should be back to normal again.

Dell told me to perform a hardreset after the A06 upgrade to resolve the draining battery issue. Seems to have worked! Also, I'm suspecting the Pocket Breeze/Weather is draining the battery while off. That Wi-fi keeps coming on while off is obviously draining the battery but this hasn't happened since I've done the hard reset.
