I'm new to PPC; I switched over from an unbearable buggy LifeDrive a few months ago. My Axim X51v is great, but there's one problem. I live in a place where I only have access to restricted computers (ie no software installation) and in order to install and copy files to my PDA I need something like Drive Mode for Palm, which would make the PDA detected as a removable drive in Explorer without driver installation. The PCs run WinXP. I tried Softick Card Export II, but it's not WM5 compatible. Please help.
Is there any solution other than a card reader? It really wouldn't be practical. Also, sorry about the double post - I wasn't sure which category it belonged in.

Even with Card Export, you'd still have to carry a USB sync cable with you, so a card reader shouldn't be any less practical. There are some really small ones available nowadays.
you know, guys...maybe not everyone in the world has tons of cash to throw around on peripherals.
Hows about you guys stop being vague and try helping this poor chap?
He is obviously broke (i.e. the part about him BEING IN COLLEGE--DUH!), so what other options does he have?

I'm not sure what you're getting at. theodorecarras mentioned that he was interested in Card Export, which currently costs $14.95. A card reader can be purchased for this price or lower; sometimes after rebates, it's even free. Besides, what we're saying is that no other option currently exists.

never say never...
with the onslaught of .NET programmers out there, SOMETHING has to exist.
And if it doesn't, it will.
demand always equals results in a medium which isn't overly penetrated by major software makers.

Instead of software solution, which would require carrying the USB sync cable with you, you could get a SanDisk SD Plus card which is a SD card with built in USB connector. http://www.dpreview.com/news/0502/05...ltraiiplus.asp

If you have wifi at work you could upload the cab files to a web server and download them to your axim, or if your PC has bluetooth you could transfer the file that way?
The card reader would have to be the simplest way though.
Thanks all... I finally decided to buy a card reader. The only problem now is programs that require a desktop installation...
If you can find the programs in CAB format then you can install directly from your Axim (copy the files over to the memory card). CAB files are also created whenever initiate a program install via ActiveSync. Instead of completing the installation, cancel it and there should be a CAB file in your ActiveSync folder on your hard drive.

Yeah, but the trouble is the comps I'm on won't let me install any software...
