I'm rolling back to WM2003SE
So far I've seen improvements in the WM5 however I have some features that are just not working out.
Can't sync up my protected music via media player (although I can copy the files over directly enough)
Having problems with active sync - sometimes it connects fine but other times my device is not listed
Also having networking issues between my home and work that I didn't have before.
I upgraded right away with the upgrade CD - had problems - rolled back to 2003. Upgraded again after hoping that the ROM update would be available last week. Since it never came I'm rolling back and waiting for it to be available for going back up a third time.

Active sycn 4.0 works better with the 2003 anyhow so that is at least an improvement

I kept getting memory erros and had to hard reset my device twice. It would also randomly decide that it didn't want to read my microdrive anymore so I'd have to take the microdrive out and put it back in. Battery life went to crap when I left my pda in standby. The only thing that was better was pocket IE. I went back to 2003SE.

I know there are many that have said that you have to make sure to follow the instructions to the letter. That means don't take it out of the cradle during the upgrade, including when you reset it. Also, once you reset the unit don't go through the setup on the device, just let it complete the setup.

I did this and had not problems with the upgrade.

Can't take it - going back to

I hate WM5. I'm an experienced developer and Windows user used to frustration and bugs, but the upgrade to WM5 that I received from Dell has pushed me over the limit.

It's unreliable, slow, and generally very buggy. I have had to do numerous soft resets. Today I got an error message that says 'Unable to activate device Hex: 64a' (or something like that). Whenever I see a message that quotes a hex address I know I'm in deep dodo.

I appreciate all the people who haven't had any problems, but for me this is an all-time low, even by Microsoft standards. I give up; I'm installing the retrograde on the Dell support site that will take me back to WM2003

I'll wait until WM5 performs and works with my 3rd party software. Right now it would be three steps backward in exchange for one step forward: not worth it.

I have tried to stay with WM5 and there are too many issues for me. I spent way too much time to get less than what I had. I just went back to WM2003SE. I will wait for a couple of updates.

Threw in the towel myself. Used (tried, anyway) WM5 for a couple of weeks and had the missing CF problem AND had the blank screen / warm boot issue among others. Don't like the Bluetooth implementation. What a PIA.
I blame myself. I've been dealing with Microsoft products long enough to know to stay away from any new product for 6 months to a year. Just can't help it...
WM2003 isn't so bad.

Everything is about progress and improvement. If no one stayed with win mob 5 there would be no improvement or experimenting to get things to work. I originally upgraded to mob 5 then downgraded. However now I am back to Mob 5. I tried the hacks and they worked things seem to run so much better.
