I Love WM2005!

I finally got around to doing the upgrade to WIndows Mobile 2005, although allthenegative publicity surrounding it had me very scared. I didn't run into any of the problems I've seen listed. Only two of my programs don't work and they weren't important ones. Three fantastic things happened because of this upgrade.

Finally, I can have all the programs I wanted to automatically start come up. Previously with PPC2003 I could not have WA2, P+, iLauncher, CalliGrapher, PB, and PW all come up. Usually, I had to take CalliGrapher out of startup and just remember to start it on my own. YAY! Everything starts up now!

I had purchased a Bluetooth Virtual Laser Keyboard about 6 months ago for $200 and could never get it to work. I upgrade to WM2005 with it's Microsoft BT stack and now it's working without a hitch. Woot!

I saved the best for last. Right before I had gotten my x50v I had purchased Snood - the best game ever. It worked great on my x30, but didn't work well on my x50v... that is until I upgraded. YAY! My favorite game is back!

I love this upgrade!!!

Anyway, the things that are not working...

Pocket RSS won't update. Not a huge deal since I usually go online anyway.

The other program I will miss is the Pocket SNES. I had just discovered the joy of having a Super Nintendo emulator about two weeks ago. I supposed I will live since I made it this far without one...

Those darn softkeys. I guess I better get used to them. SO much real estate for a minimal gain. Those I could do without.

Anyway, I am very happy and excited to be using the new operating system and happy it solved my bugs from the previous OS.

i did another upgraded 3 days ago, after i found out how i can operate my navigation system with the BT-338 and its working, so decided to give WM5 another chance.
so far i dont HATE it, but not excited with it either
still didnt get to the point of downgarding again, so testing it with softwares
working a bit slow on pocket informant, and pocket plus, and the today screen is very slow when using the today plugins of pocket plus 3 or resco explorer today plugin
GBA emulation works better
and i think PIE works faster
wifi works fine so far
soft reset takes way too long to boot
and after each soft reset need to power on the bluetooth, something that didnt happen in WM2003SE

but... not giving up yet

I agree that the soft-reset time is way too long. If I lock up or freeze in a meeting, I'll look rather silly waiting for 3-5 minutes for the Axim to come back up. Not a good thing because I use it for meeting notes.

I don't use Pocket Plus any longer. Amit converted me Currently my today screen us running Wisbar Advance 2,Pocket Breeze, Contact BReeze, Pocket Weather, Pocket RSS, Resco Plug-in, and iLauncher. The Axim is pretty snappy still (After I made the registry changes) once it gets going.

BTW, what is GBA emulation?

This is my way to mitigate the problem with softkey taking today screen real estate! Make it transparent!

Anyone know if there's a way to assign a different program to the softkeys? Using spb diary I dont need them as a direct link to contacts and calendar but would be nice to map them to a bible program and mp3 player.

If you read the thread "WM5 is here to stay" Link is right below. I just posted a trick how to read RSS in WM5 without the need of RSS reader. (read the first post!)
