Critical 86000209 Activesync error
I'm having increasing trouble synchronizing AS4.1 with my X50v WM5. I keep getting this nasty warning, plus the admonishment that any changes I make may not show up in the next sync. Anyone else find this? I can't find a reference to this code anywhere...

I did the update to WM5 and ActiveSync 4.0 a couple days ago and have seen this message 2 or 3 times. I did an additional upgrade to ActiveSync 4.1 and haven't seen the message since. I don't have much test time since the 4.1 upgrade so that may or may not be a real cure. I got rid of the 5 minute automatic sync's at nearly the same time as the second upgrade so It may be that the number of sync's going on is much lower and so the frequency of error as well. Since your already using 4.1 I'm thinking this is still an open issue.

Yes, I did. It's not listed.

I had the same problem with active sync 4.1 and Axim 51v, but since I turned off the firewall for the Local Area Connection for the Windows Mobile-based Device, the problem seams to have disappeared. For more details http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...c/default.mspx

Morning,
I had this same problem. The way I was able to fix it was to open outlook on your desktop/laptop. Click on "help" at the top of the page, and from the dropdown menu, click "detect and repair". Re-boot your system when it has completed. The sync problem went away after this.

85010017 and 86000209 errors
I suffered the same errors 85010017 and 86000209. The problem is that you try to sync too much data. Clean up your email in Outlook or disable email (it will be deleted on your PDA!). Look for more information on the microsoft site: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...c/default.mspx

Well. Ain't that a kick in the pants?
"Too much data"? What an incredibly lame excuse. I only sync about two weeks worth of email, and it's personal, not corporate, so it's not like I've got hundreds of attachments.
Frankly, the worst part is that the 86000209 error doesn't even show up in Microsoft's database--in other words, an error code without a cause. Shame on them.

Perhaps a dumb question but how do I disable the email?

Through activesync on the phone you can go to menu and options and uncheck the conduit when it's not connected to the PC.
I do tech support for the TREO700W and I encountered this problem. The customer is using activesync 4.1. She said the problem started after trying to sync with a different PC.
I'm not sure what caused the problem but I was able to fix it by deleting and recreating the partnerships on the phone and the PC and then resynching the conduits individually.
Thanks to everyone who posted about this error because the Palm database doesn't say a thing about this error.

How I solved my issue with the ActiveSync critical error 86000209
I solved the issue of the ActiveSync critical error 86000209 by only syncing the headers in my Outlook mailbox for the last 3 days. If I do more that that or add the 3KB of an email, I get the error. I use a Motorola Q with AS4.1 and Outlook 2003 SP2.

Both WM5 and Active sync is crap. I synchronize my MDA-Vario and iPAQ 3680 via two pc's (WXP and W2kPro). Each uses its own pc because otherwise it won't work at all. Both connect to the same pst file in my network. Most of the time my MDA-Vario won't synchronize at all. Tonight I got that same message as you. Still looking for the solution.

I also stopped all programs running on my Cingular 8125 before I synced. That seemed to help.
