X50V WM5 ROM improvement?
Will Dell improve the X50v WM5 ROM to make it work faster? If so, does that mean I would have to buy WM5 all over again to get an improvement?

No, improvements are made via updates as they always have been. Free as they always have been. I would expect to see one soon.

What ever they feel necessary and can do. I can see by your "join" date you are new to this. So I will explain a bit more. Dell puts out ROM updates several times a year. Similar to the ones Windows downloads and installs for your OS. What they decided to put in there is up to them, but I can only assume it is based on problems they hear/know about. You download them form the Dell site and install them yourself. Very easy to do. You can either check the dell site or watch here as someone will post as soon as it is available.
Good Luck~

Keep in mind "speed improvement" is a pretty loose term. I understand the x50 with the WM5 upgrade is not going as smooth as anyone had hoped for. But many times it can be caused by installed software or just operator error. But who knows, maybe we will see an update with "Speed Improved" and "ability to make coffee" as things listed.

after using WM5 for a few days, I really gave up. tried all the tweaks, but did not notice an increase in speed. I guess that I will do like everyone else and wait for the "better/faster" version to come out.
So i am very glad to be back to WM2003SE my x50v is back to the speed that I want. And my programs run better. So goodbye WM5, i am sure that our paths will cross again.

That's funny the way you put it. I'm pretty much sticking to WM5 because I think at some point, I would like to use the D3DM in WM5. I think it is the incompatability issues that bother me though.

I just rolled back to 2003se. I had WM5 for about a month now. I haven't had any problems after tweaking the os. I didn't like the fact that I had less free ram with WM5 than with 2003se so I down-graded. I can now run Quake III on my ppc!
