What happened to Backup/Restore in WM5

I did the upgrade to WM5 on my X50V a few days ago and was surprised when there was no explicit backup and restore commands anymore. The help file says Backup/Restore is not supported except in earlier versions. Microsoft doesn't seem to have any info on this at all on their website.

Are my observations correct or did something go wrong in the upgrade?

Are there any alternate strategies which would allow for backup of settings and configuration info on the Axim? I hate have to re-key things like email account info and program license codes that sync doesn't seem to handle automatically.

Are you talking about Activesync or the X50v? There is a built-in "Data backup" under program in X50v. In the AS, the backup option is gone.

I am talking about both. The AS4.1 help file states "Note Backing up and restoring information is available only for Windows Mobile software for Smartphone 2003 and earlier and Windows Mobile software for Pocket PC 2003 and earlier."

I had seen the onboard backup utility but it's unclear how much is actually backed up. For example will network setings for the lan card (WEP keys for example) and dial up network connections be saved?

EVERYTHING is backed up except your power-on password. or at least that's how it worked in WM2003SE... haven't tried restoring a backup in WM5 yet.

If I'm correct the AS3.8 backup utility is the only backup process that saves completley everything. The built in bkup utility will not save your wifi settings etc. I also notice that WM5 Active Sync 4.0 does not have any bkup utility.

Really? I remember having my Wi-Fi settings being restored by the built-in Data Backup software (not ActiveSync Data Backup). Maybe I'm remembering wrong...
