In WM2003 the temp files always went to \TEMP. On WM5 most of these now go to \Application Data\Volatile, which is in your (slow) flash memory.
You can speed up a few things, as well as opening up more room by moving this folder to your SD card. Open a registry editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\FileSys and edit the TempPath key. I changed mine to \SD Card\Volatile. You may need to create the Volatile folder on your SD card (not sure--it may do it automatically).

Temporary Internet Files to SD Card
If you have changed the registry to make the Temporary Internet Files (and other files) go to an SD card and you turn the device on with your card removed, the Axim will make a new folder in internal memory, named SD Card. When you plug your SD Card back into the Axim, it will then show your card as SD Card2.
I freaked and restored my device the first time this happened, but there is a simpler solution: go back into your registry editor program and direct the Temporary Internet Files (and other files that were directed to the SD Card) back into the Windows directory. Soft reset your Axim and it will still show the SD Card and SD Card2 directories, but now you can delete the SD Card (internal memory) directory. Soft reset again and it should only show one SD Card directory and that will be your actual SD Card. Then you can go back and change where you finally want your Temporary Internet Files to go and Soft reset, again.

CF or SD - which is faster?
Quote:
short answer is, "it depends" checkout this thread where there's some serious geekery in progress http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=123788 scroll past emmee & PaulSM having a bitch at each other, after that you get to the good (albeit not quite conclusive) stuff. but consensus seems to be that SD may be the way to go. SD is probably also preferable if you ever intend to add other peripherals to your Axim (GPS, VGA output, USB host, whatever), many of which will only be offered in CF, not SD, as SD's just way too small to do some of these things. anthony

When I'm watching online streaming video with windows media player, it buffers and the memory goes down quickly, and then my phone is frozen. After a while, it gives me an error message saying that the momery is too low.
Where is the cache file for WMP for streaming video? Can we move it to Storage Card? I checked internet temporary files, application data/volatile, application data/microsoft/media player, my documents, temp etc. I can't even find it. Thanks a lot. Alen
